Shit man, I don’t even know what to say reading this. I’m so sorry about all of it. Alzheimer’s is 100% my greatest fear.

 

thanks man. I’m not “sad” per se, and no one in the family really is. We know initially he’s better off, as is my cousin, instead of him laying unconscious in a hospital room for weeks on end. Like, she’s missing Christmas with her husband and kids because she came up to where her parents are (Boston ironically enough) and she lives 3 hours away. Now at least she knows when she can go back home.

And my uncle was so anal retentive with money as well, when he would visit my parents he would unplug the Kuerig because “it was left on and that will cost money” lol so we’ve already been making jokes in a group chat that he would be furious if he knew he was in a hospital bed with no recovery in sight wasting his savings away.

My family has a dark humor to it to say the least lol. And at other funerals, no one but my youngest cousin cries. The rest of us are just like, “this sucks but it is what it is”. And I’m sure that will be the tone tomorrow at Christmas.

meanwhile my grandpa on my stepdad’s side has been in assisted living for years due to heart attacks and he hates it as it’s like $6K a month. Work your whole life to live in a generic apartment being fed pills and shit food by strangers until you die. Fun! Not the way I’m going out, and seemingly no one else in my family is going out that way either. Hell, my mom said a few nights ago, “I’m not doing that. Shoot me in the head if it gets that bad”.

Alzheimer’s is my number 1 fear as well. And I’ll never marry or have kids so I’m like, “shit, I might just be aimlessly wandering my apartment or city streets and no one would know”. My bigger fear of Alzheimer’s is getting it without knowing it until it’s too late to do something about it. Blah.

my great grandmother passed of Alzheimer’s and now my grandmother is going through the early dementia stages so I fear it a lot too. Great grandma had regressed to the mind of a 6 year old before she passed.

Damn @Randall Mentzos going all out with the grades and fancy next school. Kudos and congrats on the grades! I’m just gonna be happy when this shit is over with and can say I have that stupid fucking piece of paper lol.

It sucks that certain fields seem to depend on what school you go to. How many thousands of people either can’t afford to go to the fancy school or don’t know that that’s the “necessary” one and get a degree at a “regular” school and then get rejected afterwards. Not saying this is you Randall, but your post brought it to mind.

Like, my degree is just generic business with a marketing degree, since I’ve been in marketing already for 4+ years. But any school for a business degree will work. But like, some of those data/tech/IT degrees it’s like “oh your degree isn’t from a list of these 5 schools so we basically consider it worthless”. That shit sucks to learn after the fact.

 

Its just nuts competitive out there. It’s so easy to find programmers from open-source code channels and from foreign contractors. You have to have that prestige of “good tech school” to stand out among that crowd. If I can do that, it’s like a fast track to me having a stable life situation.

I'm exhausted. Having a 2 year old on Christmas is a lot of work.

 

ive had an extremely mild dry cough / scratchy throat / headache plus nasal congestion and I just got tested yesterday.

I’m hoping it’s just allergies, haven’t ran a fever or been short of breath or felt any body aches. Taking Benadryl at night clears up all the symptoms so it might be.

Seems pretty uncommon for nasal congestion to be a feature of COVID but you never know with these asymptomatic / mild cases. I’m not with my family today though just chilling by myself so I’m taking it easy just in case.

 

I’m having cold like symptoms today and 3 days ago I was in an office picking up files for work and a woman walking by that works there said to a woman near me she just found out she tested positive and asked if she should go home. Even I said yes and moved about 10 more feet away. I’m sure I can’t get a test today but I’ll try tomorrow.

 

It’s just impossible to completely avoid... you can take every precaution but the fact that other people aren’t just ruins it. But at worst, if I have to self isolate for the next 14 days, my life won’t change that much and I’m just glad I’m not having worse symptoms than I do right now

 

My fiancé got the nasal congestion up the wazoo. Hope your test comes back negative!
