I’m sure you followed more closely than me but from afar I always thought he was good with the jags. He won a lot with a new franchise and was mobile and evasive in an era where that wasn’t common. I think he made 2 or 3 pro bowls.

Eh. At best he was John Elway lite. A lot of willpower and chemistry with his teammates, but also a fairly sloppy and inconsistent QB compared to others who were considered great at the time

 

Pennington had the best career completion percentage of anyone in his era or earlier.

he literally had an ELITE line, WR corps, and runningback. He had everything a QB could want in an offense.

 

I think if you can count Pennington then you can count Brunell.

 

Again you’re comparing across two entirely different eras of football. You don’t have the proper context. Pennington was considered a top half (top 16) QB in the league at the time. Plenty of good QBs only threw 20 TDs in a season, that’s just how the league was. Only Mark Brunell was considered an upper half QB of all the Jags QBs, and my argument for him is that he had a way better supporting cast than Pennington

 

There's five years of difference between the two. That's not different eras. IF it was, Brunell came from the less pass happy era so shouldn't his numbers be lower?

 

I think the point is that the jags have a real shot at getting someone who could be elite for the first time and they can’t screw it up like the Jets did

I’m pretty sure Matt and I have been very careful to only say that he has potential, and had a much better rookie season than expected

 

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure I remember posts even earlier this year that he was the franchise QB

When we ranked the QBs I had Minshew at like 23, and that was generous because it was right after a solid rookie season.

 

I will outright give y’all credit for this: I was wrong to suggest we aren’t bad enough to get the #1 pick. I definitely thought Minshew would win us more than one game.

of course his thumb injury helped... and he could still ruin it for us and win one of these last two.

 

We actually had a bet on who would have the better year stidham or Minshew so I guess I owe you money haha

 

I'd still take minshew on the steelers

 

Yeah, SF would be extremely wise to take a flier on Minshew.
