I don’t think you’ll see a Dolphins-like tank job from Carolina. We’re going to make some weird moves but I think they’ll still try to win games while flipping the roster. I’m completely fine with flipping majority of the players.

Steelers off-season will be so boring. They will tag Dupree, release a few people, and that will be it.

 

Also, Okung is on a 1 year deal for $13mil...if he's good, you're still fucked in resigning him. Whereas they had Turner for 2/$19 mil...or basically half Okung's salary.

Just the idea of trading a 26 year old for a 32 year old should be the hint that maybe you arent making a good deal.

I understand why they’d want to move Turner if they didn’t want to resign him down the road but the return is what confused me. I don’t know what their plan is right now tbh.

All the arguments you could maybe make against Turner you can more easily make against Okung.

Turner - 5x pro bowler but maybe not deserving all 5 times. We see it a lot with OL. Ryan Kalil was a pro bowler every year and half the time was average at best. People vote OL to pro bowl off name recognition because very few of us know what great OL play looks like. After having an all-pro season people assume he’s that good every year. Kalil was the same.

(Not necessarily my opinion just trying to talk out what Panthers could be thinking)

Okung - 2x pro bowler but past his prime and not actually a pro bowler now.

Turner - has missed multiple games the last 3 seasons. Making big money and not always available.

Okung - obvious injury history and making big money.

Even if these things were all true and you make the argument Turner is overrated....Okung is 32 and only a year on his deal. So I honestly have no clue what their thinking is haha

Its also funny because its so rare to see player for player deals like this...especially OL for OL. Maybe you occasionally see a CB traded for an offensive player, but even then its rarely a starter.

This would make a lot more sense if the Panthers got him for a mid-late rounder; you'd have Okung/Paradis/Turner as a baseline, and you use one of the 3 picks inside the top 70 to get another G, and you hope Little pans out and theres your O-line. And if it doesnt work in 2020, you move on from Cam and most of those guys in 2021.
