We told the person he could have three months rent free, just covering his utilities, if they accept the offer. He asked for six months. Which is fine to negotiate but, I know I just saved him $2700 + he gets his deposit of $1350 back, and I want to renovate that guest house ASAP.

Lol I went into a bookstore once trying to help a small business. I had a list of 10 books i was looking for for my dad. They weren't anything particularly crazy or rare, just some biographies. The book store had none of them. By the 5th book, my fiance suggested i look on amazon and the employee hissed at us while continuing to tell me they could back order things but it would take 6 weeks.

 

I bought my house in 2014 and homes in my neighborhood are going for up to 50K-100K more than what we paid for. They're also selling in a day or two for over asking. My wife and I really want to move, and we practically live on Zillow, but the problem is there aren't a lot of homes on the market and homes in our neighborhood are selling so fast (which is a good problem) that our worry is we'd sell quickly and then have to go rent an apartment or something until we can find a house.

 

I go great lengths to avoid buying from Amazon. I probably don’t need the same specialized items you need but yeah. I do not buy from them.

they already make enough money off of me via AWS and ad networks anyway.

This was kind of my last "niche" shopping experience. I went into a photography store that had a light stand set I wanted...except they only had one in the box and wanted to charge me 75% the price of two vs 50% the price of one. When I asked why I would pay the same price for one ($75) as I would for two on Amazon ($75) he told me I didn't care about small business and that he has to have his markups high because nobody buys from him and then two weeks later I needed gels for lights and he told me it would take a month to get in.

So yeah I'm with you. Amazon is a useful tool run by an unethical moral-less tool.

The place has 7 bedrooms but they are all kind of small so we plan on turning 2 of them into offices for her and I, and one into a photo room. But functionally that leaves us with four bedrooms still!

I just did a quick calculation.

Jeff Bezos himself - not Amazon the company, just Bezos - has made enough money this year to, out of pocket, give every single one of his 800,000 employees a bonus of $90,000.

Nearly a million employees could all have their income increase by nearly 100 grand... out of his POCKET...

and he would STILL!! STILL!! Have $2 BILLION in personal income left over this year, AFTER paying that.

instead, he just took away their hazard pay at the height of the pandemic.

 

Well right now I'm near Toms River, that's where I made the offer though.
