Yeah parking in the winter sounds dumb, but so does walking around for blocks and blocks in the slush with tall buildings acting like wind tunnels.

so snowy winters in big cities just in general seem dumb hahaha. Especially because we have the technology to literally lay down heated roads that also gather solar power

We really need to hit a JAX @ PIT game someday. It’ll probably happen in 2022. Let’s get beers in your fave spots in the city.

I’ve only seen Philly and the Pitt surrounding area, like down the Monogahela river. (And driven through central PA a handful of times). I love Philly a lot but definitely think the mountain-city thing probably gives Pitt its own appeal

    there is one way out

There’s only like 3 sections of Pittsburgh that feel like a “big city”. Most of it is really neighborhood based (there are 90 of them). like I live in the city limits (about 3 mi from downtown), in a four bedroom house.

if you have MONEY you can have that in DC or Atlanta lol. Northwest DC, and East Atlanta are phenomenal suburban-urban mixed areas with high accessibility, but man you need a strong salary to afford them

Pittsburgh is definitely one of the cities I'm most curious about visiting.

Lumping in DC and ATL is certainly a choice

Philly and NYC don’t need suburban parts of town. All the suburbanites move to NJ and Long Island respectively hahaha

Eh. Both are only like, kinda dense. ATL has a huge downtown and all of east DC is multi level townhomes and apartments, but then there’s sides of town very close to the central core that are really chill and beautiful. (That only graduate doctors scientists and lawyers, and tech workers, and company execs can afford houses in.)

I mean the cost. Atlanta is MUCH cheaper.

Oh well yeah. But living in the suburbs in DC is still really cool, often at less than half the price. Atlanta’s suburbs suck and I would only wanna live close to downtown, east ATL or Midtown.

I could truly envision myself in either city long term. If i stayed in DC the Maryland suburbs are where it’s at.

If you're doing ATL suburbs then Decatur all the way. Anywhere NE really. Avoid the worst of the traffic and you aren't just out in the suburbs. Out where Ana's house is just sucks haha. Dope house though.

yeah and if you can’t afford Decatur then you’re better off living in a naturally gorgeous area on some land, like Stone Mountain or near one of the lakes north of Atlanta. Much better bang for your buck than the suburbs if you aren’t gonna have accessibility either way.

That’s where it’s just like, yeah just enjoy your affordable countryside, wake up at 5 AM to beat the traffic or find a job you can work from home some days... and don’t talk to your racist neighbors lol

but that said I would much rather try to get a small house in an older, less ritzy part of central Atlanta than where we lived. Like West End or East Atlanta Village or Grant Park etc. id be fine to just live in apartments and stack cash and pay off debt until I find a great deal. And then I can still take weekend trips to mountains and lakes easily.

i was trying to talk my wife into moving to atlanta a few years ago because the houses in the burbs were huge and cheap compared to baltimore. we ended up building in southern PA - cheaper than Baltimore on this side of the line and didn't need to change jobs or anything.

we have countryside and a farm across the street, we wake up at 6AM to beat the traffic, and we definitely have racist neighbors.

Yeah, if you want city living then yeah that's absolutely the place to buy. West End is where all the breweries are anyway.

Fun Fact - our new apartment is half a mile from Creature Comforts

Yeah my girlfriend had a house out in between Marietta and Atlanta that's SUPER nice. And it's in the sweet spot of the NW suburbs where you don't have to hop on the loop and put up with traffic to get into town.

yeah, West End is my favorite “cheap” option... but East Atlanta Village / Candler Park / Grant Park/ Cabbagetown are my ideal scenarios. Parks and bike trails are fucking outstanding in that area, and the restaurants & local businesses are all so cute and charming.

    RECLAIMED RYE / TROPICALIA

god damn. As much as I talk about more high class, international culture & better food in DC.... Atlanta / Athens BEER SCENE. Was easily better than DC / Baltimore. I miss Creature Comforts.

I need to come see y’all when I get a car.

Oh yeah for sure, East Atlanta is where it's at.

Yeah the ATL beer scene is pretty great. Most of the Athens ones are "outskirts" but the town is deceptively small. I'd consider Akademia to be out of town but it's like 5 miles away haha

In Baltimore my choice is easy - live in Hampden. Done. Next.

Haha. There’s a lot of neighborhoods I’d rent in... Fells Point is my favorite if I’m trying to do city-life. but Hampden / Roland Park is the spot I’d buy in, hands down. Best combo of “having your own space” and “walking down the street to the store and the neighborhood bar.” Easily could bike from there to downtown / south Baltimore as well.

Having a condo in Mount Vernon or Federal Hill would be fun but I’m a damn musician. I’d have to also buy some abandoned brick building with a gated door and almost no windows, and turn it into a recording studio / music venue to get my fix.

It’s too much, I just need a house or an end-unit townhouse with a basement
