The more useful part of it is the rookie QB, down 30-10, still giving the team a chance despite having none of his usual targets.

If they lose that game 33-10, after Xavien Howard got their 3rd INT, there'd rightfully be calls to put Fitzpatrick back in because the defense did more than enough to make the game competitive.

I think what I'm not getting is that the defense was the thing that kept them in the game, hands down. Baker played lights out, the secondary was great, and Howard was lights out.

They scored 17 points in the fourth which is great, but the Chiefs were playing the clock at that point.

I guess it's impressive if we consider the Dolphins a bad team but they aren't a bad team and I don't consider them one. This was a great team (Chiefs) digging a hole, being the better team, digging themselves out of it and the good team (The Dolphins) blowing the lead vs a great team and then mounting a comeback but there wasn't enough clock.

Dolphins dominated the first quarter and went into halftime down 4

you can't just pick and choose what quarter counts and what doesn't

I never once said anything of the sort. Point is, the better team won. The Dolphins are a good team that got beat by a better team and ran out of time. It's no more impressive a loss than I expect from a good Dolphins team.

Even after taking a 30 yard sack + throwing 3 interceptions yesterday, Mahomes is getting that MVP award

TBH, I think I'm on the Derrick Henry MVP train.

I don't even think Henry is having that much better of a season than Cook, a QB definitely is going to win this year.

I think it's moreso that Henry is the driving force of the Titans, who are currently one of the better teams in the league. Plus, without Cook, Mattison can still get the job done. Can't say the same for Jeremy McNichols at all.

Yeah, who would want to coach a team with the most draft picks, a good young core, the most cap space, and is willing to give you more power than the GM. Terrible opportunity.

The Chargers winning and still staying as the 4th pick? Can't complain about that, lol

    The rivalry is back on

Something kind of fun I was thinking about yesterday. Are we about a year or two away from the AFC/NFC split being as big as the East/West split in the NBA?

    Things going for the AFC:
    - Patrick Mahomes/that ridiculous Chiefs team
    - Lamar Jackson, one year removed from being a superhuman and hopefully continuing to develop
    - Two more of the most exciting, fairly young QBs (Allen, Watson)
    - A cast of teams who aren't flashy but can play the role that teams like the Nuggets and the Jazz play as solid, but limited ceiling teams (Steelers, Titans, Colts, Browns(?))
    - 3 of the past 4 #1 overall pick QBs, including every QB of note in last year's draft (Burrow, Tua, Herbert) + at least the first two to go in this one (Lawrence, Fields/Wilson)

    Things going against the NFC:
    - probably 2 years away at most from Brees and Brady retiring
    - hitting the stage where Rodgers could get the boot in GB and they make room for first round QB pick Jordan Love
    - outside of Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray, and Dak, not much more to be excited about at the QB position
    - lots of teams stuck in that middle ground of not being good but not being bad enough to really start over either

Broncos and Pats could fuck around if they want also and get Wilson and Trask/Jones

Really good chance they have 4 picks in the top 50 (with LA's 1st and MIN's 2nd), and an extra 4th and 5th.

Id also absolutely want to be GM of a team with that much cap space and young talent that I can trade to teams who are FUCKED on the cap like PHI, NO, or ATL.

Also, fucking LOL, Atlanta owes $115mil of cap space to 6 players and the only reasonable way to save any money on those 6 would be designating Matt Ryan a post-June 1 release

Jags and Dolphins own like 20% of the top 50 of the draft lmao

Yeah, Jacksonville is 100% the most appealing job in the NFL. NYJ is #2. If LAC opens up then that's an easy #3.

Actually would not be surprised in the slightest if LAC trades down with SF and the 49ers steal Wilson from Carolina.

And its a thing that becomes self sustaining; if you are a bad team in the AFC (Jags, Cin, Jets), you get the shit kicked out of you weekly and you lock in a top 5 pick. And if you are a half-formed team (HOU, DEN, etc), you have no hope of accidentally getting the 7th wildcard spot and dropping 10 spots in the draft.

In the NFC, whoever wins the NFC East probably drops 15 draft slots. Even a team like the Vikings/Lions or whoever gets the 7th slot is gonna be a .500ish team that should be picking like 13th instead of 20th.

Yeah, honestly, there isn’t a team in the AFC that I’m actively skeptical of the direction that team is going besides Houston, but that one is still salvageable with a good coach and overachieving with a great QB and subpar supporting cast for a couple years before rebuilding the rest of the team. Pats are playing the Spurs role of the former dynasty who can’t fully dismantle and if the Broncos can fix QB, either by developing Lock or replacing him, they’ve got all the pieces on offense to be v fun

I don't agree with giving up on a QB as quickly as they would be (same with Minshew) but yeah, the Broncos offense could be elite if they get a consistently good QB.
