Justin Simmons didn't have name recognition last year and he made it.

 

Assume the cap doesnt go down (I dont think it will...honestly...I think they'll fudge it against future growth before accepting a loss), and is $190-195mil.

If I trade Taysom Hill, restructure Brees/Thomas/Cam Jordan, trade or extend Armstead + Jenkins, and give Ryan Ramczyk an extension that is mostly guaranteed future base and/or guaranteed future roster bonuses v. a big signing bonus, I can get them to $192mil. There's probably 4-5 more restructures/extensions that get them to $180mil or so (Emmanuel Sanders type guys).

Its still the Rams scenario where you cant bring in big ticket players without burning draft capital...but, you can survive with enough of a roster to keep going 10-6 for a few years....but, there's a reason the Steelers had a couple of down years in the early 2010s, as thats when all the "keep restructuring guys in their 30s" came due.

Not really a meltdown. Team’s not great: that’s a fact. It’s also a fact that the Offensive playcalling has been fucking atrocious and has exacerbated issues including but not limited to Cam Newton having the yips lol

 

I just can't imagine complaining about my team being uncompetitive after they played in 9 (NINE!) Super Bowls since 2001.

He was horrible in coverage before the ACL injury last year and seems to have lost even more speed since.

But he plays hard and will defend the run with the best of 'em. He's also a really good dude for the locker room.

 

Definitely depth. Spillane is the starter, but Williamson can shuffle in on a few obvious rush downs, etc for a break.

The snap numbers for a lot of the Steelers defense (being 90+%) are getting too high to keep avoiding injuries; see Heyward, so, smart to grab veteran depth

Besides, the Steelers already have one of these starting at ILB for them...

 

Steve McLendon and Avery Williamson must feel awesome right now.
