Also Tunsil is an actual elite LT not just a “potential” one and we stand to fill a lot of other needs in the draft if we aren’t distracted by needing a tackle

I’m down with filling one of our glaring needs with a really good free agent to open us up to freely do other shit in the draft.

I would choose Tunsil over Norwell and cut/trade him tbh *shrug* along with cutting Marqise Lee.

 

Well we only really have room for one. It's not something I see us doing at all.

 

So, thats actually a deal where it makes sense (mostly guaranteed salary, etc)....but, my god would that be embarrassing for ARI. Giving up a mid-round pick so you can pay a FA RB because your previous FA RB busted...when instead you should just use the mid-rounder on a RB

 

Yeah I mean I mostly speak from, what moves I would be looking into if it was my choice

Chris Jones > Yannick Ngakoue OR Calais Campbell, but adding Chris Jones to an already very talented DL is not nearly as good as adding Tunsil to Minshew/Fournette and still having Yannick and Allen.

Keep in mind we’d have to pay Jones like a DE to win him over, even though he’d play DT in our scheme, because 3-4 teams will have that DE price tag on him. The only scenario I’d rather splurge on Jones than Tunsil for that $19M (probably $22-$23M for Jones) is if we aren’t signing Yannick (which I’d hate) and we move to a 3-4. Too much change to be serious about.

But 3 tech defensive tackle is not a hard skill set to find, esp not compared to LT; there’s often good 2nd / 3rd round options in drafts. Way, way easier to draft that than LT. I personally think we have a better chance at Derrick Brown than Andrew Thomas right away.

I also think we need Byron Jones more than Chris Jones and Byron is prob cheaper than Chris or Tunsil.

 

Taylor is a beast. I hope he goes first round haha

Yup, that's four first round talents including three top 20 talents

 

Hence why he's not being paid because, at the 3 tech position Jones is easier to replace than he is to pay.

Not true of 5-tech defensive end in a 3-4, which has huge run defense responsibility PLUS his 15-20 sack potential.

 

Fixes our entire defense before we even GET to our two first round picks next year. If Minshew is good, that's either two OL, or an OL and a weapon next year. If he isn't, well that just frees us up to trade the farm for Lawrence if we get that 5% chance of doing so.
