I work till 1 AM Fridays, go to bed at like 3-4, and then wake up at 8:15 AM for Saturday brunch shifts every week.

But I actually prefer doing that and powering through a brunch shift, than feeling like I lost my whole Saturday working 3 PM to 1 AM.

Sometimes I get tired and take a nap after work and that’s cool! Suddenly I have the energy to go out drinking with a friend that night. Sometimes I get off work and still have energy! Then there’s still enough daylight for me to bike to the park and then go see some local bands. Having that Saturday night off is always better.

  2. I'm more productive workwise in the morning. Like 7:30 - noon I do a ton of work. After noon I'm at like 30% output.

I actually just deleted the post cause I realized Matt probably wakes up early every day but then falls back asleep because it’s not enough

And that’s why. His internal clock is still set to early morning. Mine isn’t and never has been haha. So for me waking up early is just a weird one-off thing and I sleep extra the next day. Like waking up to catch a flight or something.

I love having a strong internal clock but it has its drawbacks. I was always the first one up when I used to crash at friends houses

Together, we could rule the world. When I had a 9-5, I'd get to work at 9, maybe do 10% of my daily work between then and noon, go get lunch, come back and do 80% of my work in 2hrs, and then by 3-4pm be ready to go home.

I'm so much more productive working from home cause I can work 2hr chunks and when I get bored, I go play my PS4 or something

  12. The dream would be to work from home more, but my company isn't that progressive.

I'd like to work from like 8-1, maybe run errands or do chores for a few hours, then maybe work later after my son goes to bed like 7-9.

Haha sorry I wasn't trying to sound like I was bragging about not being here. I'm here a lot I'm just terrible at engaging in conversation for some reason on this thread. It's like a group of friends having a good time and I'm sitting at the nearby table listening, living vicariously. I'll try harder!

No work schedule is fully ideal haha I like being able to change mine around but that’s not likely in the corporate world.

Like if lived in a Work utopia... if I had a huge project to get done it’d be less mentally draining for me to just focus on it 3 days a week and work long hours those days (like 10 am to 8 Pm or something) and then take Thursday off to recuperate and then finish up / get feedback / double check those last few guidelines on Friday.

Rather that than like, having to grind 9 to 5 every day with no break. cause then I’m less likely to stay productive until I reach a stopping point. IN general I’m less likely to stay focused and work at high productivity over long periods than in short spurts.

And then if there was a lighter workload, fuck being there 8 hours lol I’d rather go in 11 am to 3 pm and knock that shit out at 100% productivity. Than bullshit at a work desk 30 minutes of every hour until the sun goes down. That is what every white collar worker says they do and it sounds stupid, why wouldn’t I just be home more if there isn’t that much to do??

  17. Yeah, I just wish management (in general not just at my company) trusted people to be professionals and do what they need to do to get the job done. As long as that is happening, who cares when or how they work. Deliver when you need to deliver by, be at the meetings you need to be at, etc.

Some people would take advantage but they'd get weeded out eventually.

I mean it sounds dumb but that is a big draw for programming for me. It’s not automatic, entry level programmers probably gotta do the 9 to 5 thing until they prove themselves, but lots of established ones say they work from home and/or choose their office hours as long as it’s done by the deadline and all the requirements are satisfied.

You're describing my 8-5, Monday through Friday. Up until this time every day I'm moving through work and staying productive and then I just hit a wall and start spending more time on the computer -- like this. Small business retail/service for you. My brother in law works a sales marketing job and gets a floating "work from home" day each week, a one hour lunch daily, and tons of early days. I get irrationally jealous every time I listen to him talk about it.

My job allows me to request specific days and schedules within reason as long as I do it two weeks in advance. But it’s not like I always know two weeks in advance “it’s gonna be busy as shit that weekend, I’mma request that Monday off.”

It’s usually better to stick to my, off Sunday and Wednesday, two easier lunch shifts per week schedule. When I or management starts changing it around I always end up exhausted, missing local shows I wanted to support, and just totally derailed on my chores / cooking and sleeping routine that week.

And The trade off is, they can also just be like “hey we have no one for this lunch shift! We are just gonna schedule you a double shift randomly with very little notice; even though that was your only laundry day you had planned and you work another double the next day.” That shit really throws you off. That happened the week before my NOLA trip and I was exhausted the whole first day, ended up sleeping all afternoon cause I had to do laundry and pack late at night between two double shifts.

I mean I also Work 7-8 hours most dinner shifts without any sort of break so thats something 9 to 5s have over me. I can’t even answer a text message or hop on chorus except for 1-2 minutes while I go to the bathroom,

Lunch break isn’t a thing except on double shifts. I definitely have to sneak eat if I’m hungry. Yes, I work in a restaurant and there’s food everywhere they could be giving employees. But managers offering free food is seen as stealing by the company, even the wasted food that is just gonna go in the trash without being eaten. Managers will not let you buy food on the clock either, as a policy. And eating outside food is a health code violation. So no server is actually allowed to eat anything the whole time they’re working except under very special circumstances haha. (We all do it anyway from time to time and we could all get fired for it lol. )

I always think working in a restaurant sounds like a good time until I read this sort of thing. That's brutal. I'm hoping the urge to eat all the good looking food dies down after working around it a bit...? Otherwise literal torture.
