I think it’s more than that. He didn’t even travel with the team the past two weeks. He’s not speaking to anyone even to give the boring quotes that players give all the time. We don’t even know if he’s in getting treatment the way that he should. I’m not even going to start on the fake tweet from earlier this week.

I get the sense that he’s not even willing to go through the motions, which is why I think there’s more disdain than just “pay me” and he’s leaving no matter what

 

It just hurts me that one of my favorite players in the NFL isn’t staying in my city because they waited until year 4 was OVER to try to sign him, and then got stuck trying to offer him less than a sexual abuser that isn’t even good at football anymore… that’s all.

the second he had a superbowl caliber season in his second year, negotiations shoulda started right then imo. I feel like the strategy of making players continue to prove it throughout their rookie contracts is outdated. Contract inflation happens too fast and players are too aware of how much leverage they have on the open market. If the talent is palpable and they play a real important position for you… sign em early.

im having the same problem with us just sitting on our hands with Josh Allen. Dude is clearly an excellent, maybe not tier 1 elite but top of tier 2, pass rusher who simply hasn’t had enough help since we traded Calais and Ramsey to get the double digit sacks he would be getting on a better line. He is an elite athlete who gets pressure all the fucking time and can drop back and cover when asked. He is absolutely a culture leader on the team who you can see pumping up his teammates and adding momentum to games in real time (including yesterday, when his second quarter sack triggered our defense coming to life in the second half). And now he’s actually getting the sacks / big plays at the end of the season when it really matters, and it’s gonna cost us more and more money to keep him

 

Assuming the reports are true (and I imagine they are), the Ravens came up $100mil short in what Lamar wanted guaranteed (a 5yr, $250mil extension, but with like $150mil guar). Thats such a huge gulf that there really is only 2 ways for it to end. The Ravens agree and fully guarantee...or he plays for a team that will.

A rapist got 2x as much. Kyler got way more. Mahomes is on the kind of deal where like $300+ mil is practically guaranteed. Even Aaron Rodgers' ancient ass is in a position to force the Packers hand every offseason.

And Kyler got paid despite being drafted a year later.

 

This x1000. Honestly, the Mahomes deal was genuinely genius by the Chiefs. The locked him up super-long-term at far and away a #1 QB rate...but also structured it where he has outs and also where they can spread cap hits if they need. And even if the cap goes way up, he's still getting paid like $40mil on league Day 1 every year...gets hard to be mad that you're underpaid.

Leave it to the teams that bilk the cap to think that the rookie salary cap also meant they could squeeze an extra year or two out of elite talent

 

YES. This. Let the Saints roll those dice. Maybe drag it out with players that are B-list, but keep your fuckin studs as soon as you can lock them in. There ain’t no reason the Ravens should’ve been on the fence with Lamar imo.
