Gallup wasn’t a starter in his rookie season because they still had Beasley and were trying to convince themselves of other goofballs before trading for Cooper. Gallup flashed late in the season though, which led to him becoming a starter in 2019. They re-signed Cooper in 2020, then took Lamb because he just fell further than he should have.

Gallup was still playing ahead of Lamb last year, which was evident in 12 personnel packages, because they trusted Gallup to play the X on the line of scrimmage while Cooper played the Z off the line. Lamb was their slot WR. Heading into this season, they wanted to get more creative with Lamb’s deployment (as they should have). Gallup suffered a calf injury week one against the Bucs, which kept him out until November and opened up way more playing time for Lamb.

Unfortunately, Gallup got hurt a month or so later. It sucks because he’s scheduled to hit free agency this offseason and his counting stats from last year obviously don’t look great due to Dalton starting most of the season while dealing with injuries this year. I imagine Dallas brings him back on a cheap deal considering all of that, which may be best for Gallup so he can recover and come back to an offense he’s familiar with. He’s a good WR, but he’s been pushed to the background a bit more simply because of how they use him in the offense as a deep threat and because of Lamb’s arrival/emergence
