this isnt luck. We watch football every year and a good 50% of games are this close. Great teams know how to close, good-to-okay teams don’t.

That’s arguably THE thing that makes a winning team. Can you perform exactly as scripted and also improvise intelligently even when you’re sweating, exhausted and nervous? Can the coach trust his players and can players trust their teammates to get the job done, and not go rogue because they overthink and feel the need to do too much? Is your team’s communication, chemistry, prep, and focus good enough to stay on the same page - even when the stadium gets loud and the other team gets momentum?

I could complain about all the times the Jags lost close games but nobody cares about that… if we didn’t suck we’d finish. It’s that simple. We can say it came down to a field goal but then what did the coach / team do to make that field goal easier? What could they have done to get in the end zone instead? It’s never just one play / one incident, it’s a culmination of how well the team set itself up for that moment, leading up to a test of how well they can handle that pressure.

 

Elite teams don’t just blow everybody out. In fact it’s more common they win close games… those teams win way too many close games for it to just be luck
