Issue is definitely that he was forced OOB and then the tackle was completed but it's a lot easier to judge when you have this full view than it is in real time when you can't exactly stop your tackle to look at your feet and see what's going on

I do think it's not a big deal. I think it's fair that he was flagged given the play was over at the OOB moment and also not representative of a dirty play (which he has plenty of already so we don't really need to point to this one)

yeah it was almost a reputation flag. i didnt' watch the game live, just saw posts from in here and then that clip this morning

 

Yeah full disclosure I didn't watch it either so no idea if there's additional context from within the game itself

 

No additional context at the time really. Sam could've tried to bulldoze him less, but Al-Shaair also picked him up and then left his feet to pile drive him which made it look pretty extreme in the live stream.

 

My issue with Al-Shaiir is he makes zero effort to NOT make egregious tackles on QBs

like what are you intimidated by Sam Darnold or something and feel like you need to prove your toughness? what makes you feel the need to do that, grow up and just push him out of bounds

 

Big time.

I’d understand if it was Cam Newton or somebody like that who probably will run you over if you don’t hit him hard - but you barely have to breathe on Darnold to tackle him lol. It is, by definition, unnecessary roughness

 

You're not wrong. And like I said I fully agree with the flag. I just don't think that individual play is anything especially egregious, vs other plays Al-Shaiir has made that look like clear dirt

Hit was the easiest flag a ref has ever thrown, but not much more than that. That being said, if he hit Drake Maye like that I'd pay someone $50 to have him {redacted}

 

Darnold is 6 8 315 lbs he’s big

 

Shaiir is listed at almost the same height/weight as Darnold lol

 

And? Shaiir has played defense his whole life and Darnold has played quarterback his whole life. One of those people is conditioned and specifically works out in ways to hit much harder than the other
