Yeah, no one is asking for sympathy: just that they be able to complain in peace without somebody saying "well I have it worse, what about me" at every turn so as to invalidate the gripes.

The point is that moralizing about sporting event just makes you look petty. When someone like Drew needs your sympathy and permission to be indignant or call Mike McCarthy a worthless pile, I'll be sure to send him your way.
