touching it is illegal hands to the face I think the difference is facemask is actually a personal foul which is why it’s 15 and not 10 yards. But you’re not allowed to touch a guy’s facemask at all unless you’re a ballcarrier
Now, if it became a face mask penalty later because he grabbed and pulled I GUESS that makes sense but that’s a dumb technicality. It was already a different penalty before the goal line
You can’t just see a guy clip a defender before the goal line and hold him after and be like “clipping NO WAIT HOLDING” lol
Idk, getting the rules right matters to me. We can’t be going into future games assuming guys can “incidentally” touch a face mask if that’s not true
And we also shouldn’t confuse “spot of the foul” with “where the ballcarrier was when the foul occurred” two very different things
Posters on a forum arguing over 1 yard here or there will not, in any way, help get the rules right in future instances lol
Hands to the face involves force. Engaging in a block and happening to touch the facemask isn't. It's to do with the force of pushing someone's head back, accidentally grabbing the facemask and immediately disengaging is within the rules
But it’ll help us not have contentious discussions like this when the rules actually are pretty cut and dry (even if poorly enforced)
that’s literally not true. It’s just a different penalty, not a facemask, was where I was wrong. any touch of the face mask is automatically illegal use of hands, and that’s always been true it’s not new
I just wanna make sure I’m clear: We’re currently having a contentious conversation where exactly zero people will change their mind in the hopes of avoiding future contentious conversations where exactly zero people will change their mind?
If it’s an objective discussion, the side that is wrong should change their mind lol. I already posted proof that I looked it up and it is illegal use of hands even if it’s not facemask
That is true. That's the rule. It's considered incidental contact to touch the facemask, it's illegal hands to the face when force becomes involved
Show me where you’re seeing this because I’ve many times seen incidental contact of the facemask with no force called
@Drew Beringer - Can you institute some rule that requires a $5 donation to the make a wish foundation prior to complaining about refs?
