I think the difference is facemask is actually a personal foul which is why it’s 15 and not 10 yards. But you’re not allowed to touch a guy’s facemask at all unless you’re a ballcarrier

 

Now, if it became a face mask penalty later because he grabbed and pulled I GUESS that makes sense but that’s a dumb technicality. It was already a different penalty before the goal line

 

You can’t just see a guy clip a defender before the goal line and hold him after and be like “clipping NO WAIT HOLDING” lol

Hands to the face involves force. Engaging in a block and happening to touch the facemask isn't. It's to do with the force of pushing someone's head back, accidentally grabbing the facemask and immediately disengaging is within the rules

That is true. That's the rule. It's considered incidental contact to touch the facemask, it's illegal hands to the face when force becomes involved
