I don't necessarily have an issue with the tush push but I do understand the defensive players perspective where you have 300 lb people diving at your knees.
yeah fuck JDR but idk. I just feel like, maybe scheme your blocking better to open up the yards. Watching much bigger dudes push the ballcarrier isn't really that entertaining. Def not just talking about the Eagles play, I think that's a lame way to get yards in general
The ballcarrier's* job is to gain the amount of yards needed. Making it the ballcarrier + 600 extra pounds of force behind him is kind of a different thing. If you can't lateral to a lineman and have him advance the ball that way (which would probably be a way too easy way to win short yardage situations).... then I don't see why they should be allowed to physically advance the ballcarrier
or maybe you can and I'm just dumb lol. All I know is NFL rules are constantly adjusting and changing and if enough people and coaches didn't like pile pushing they could take it out of the game. But so far there's no sign of that happening so it's not a big deal.
I just think every coach coming out to ban it are acting in bad faith. Ya'll just can't stop it and it bugs you. Cry more.
Like next it's gonna be "Well, the Dolphins shouldn't be allowed to use short motion like they do, or hide Tyreek Hill beneath lineman because he's scrawny" when in reality their defenses just suck ass lol
what is the basis for banning it? What rule is it breaking? Should they also ban OLineman pushing their ball carrier forward in scrums in the open field?
And that's exactly what James Harden would say about people who criticize the gather step loophole. But if it makes a mockery of the competitive balance of the game between ballcarrier and defender then fans have every right to be annoyed that it's legal.
That's what my argument is, yes. I don't feel that strongly about it, but ideally yeah once the ballcarrier's momentum is stopped by the defense, for both safety and competitive reasons, they should blow the whistle right there and not allow a scrum
Having Patrick Mahomes also makes a mockery of the competitive balance between offense and defense yet we allow that lol
