I have a co-worker that told me today that he thought this season has been super boring.

I just looked at him strange and was like did you not see like the first Thursday game/most first Sunday games.

The one last year wasn't. Ugly game for all parties involved. I went so I was happy to get the win but it was not a good game haha

The one before that was alright I think, Bortles' second win

I'll clarify: He was the greatest NFL coach ever before last night's game.

It's impossible to name one better.

Bill Walsh is the only one that comes close. Belichick coaches with a much more complex offense in a much more cerebral era of the NFL than Landry or Noll, with more games in a season, and has the most playoff wins in history (with multiple first round byes not counted). He's won more Super Bowls than Walsh, who I will not discredit the importance of and will say comes close to Belichick. The only arguments I will ever have in favor of Walsh is that he obviously perfected the WCO for NFL use and that he played in a tougher NFC than Belichick's AFC. But even then, Belichick did play against a lot of powerhouses in the AFC as well.

I still give Belichick the upper hand.

Another note: Belichick plays in an era where rules are constantly changed for the sake of parity against the Patriots. I'm not talking any suspension shit, I'm talking DB rules, WR rules, formation rules, eligibility rules, etc.

Hmm sounds like 7th round rookie Jalen Mills is going to be tasked on Antonio Brown this week.

Should go over well.....for Steeler fans. lol

I like Mills and think he's going to be good soon but uh yeah, not a great plan.

In addition, I hope the Steelers blitz Wentz all day. He's been the best QB in the league when the opposing defense sends extras.

--> to the benefit of Manning

Anyways, it's his being in the salary cap/free agent era that makes it so incredible. For the NFL, with so many players, it's impossible to keep all your great players like most of the great pro basketball coaches did. He had so many hodgepodge rosters with no names and just kept winning. Lombardi, Walsh, and the gang didn't have to deal with that. The current NFL has unprecedented parity.

again, Walsh was a genius but what separates them is Belichick doing more with less.

At the same time, it says a lot about Walsh that he was able to draft well the ENTIRE TIME he was in SF and turn all these steals into some of the best rosters EVER in the NFL.

The way I would put it is Walsh really knew how to strategically use talent, Belichick really knows how to strategically compensate for any talent his team lacks.

Also, look at Walsh's coaching tree and then look at Belichick's. Walsh's impact on the league is really unmatched.

From a strictly coaching perspective, they are damn close.

    Well said.

But I still think that the institution of the salary cap and the allowance of players to price themselves in the market is the great equalizer. Since then (1994), only these coaches have won multiple Super Bowls:

Bill Belichick: 4 wins, 6 appearances
Mike Shanahan: 2 wins, 2 appearances
Tom Coughlin: 2 wins, 2 appearances

Holmgren, Cowher, Carroll, and Tomlin are the only others with 2 appearances and 1 win
