Sorry I got so fiery about saying THAT WASNT PI last night lol.

I love defense a lot and it infuriates me when good defense gets called a penalty because of incidental contact. This is a contact sport and being good at defense requires so much aggressive conviction that it neuters the game if you force them to be overly careful about touching somebody.

I am fully okay with trying to reduce injuries but situations like that have nothing to do with injuries and everything to do with, defenders are allowed to be in the same space and fight for the same ball. It’s the WRs job to get AWAY from them, it’s not the DB’s job to back up and say “oh I’m sorry excuse me this is your route my bad”

if the WR was pulled away from the ball or pulled off his route when he was trying to separate that’s one thing… and of course you can’t just push someone on the ground past 5 yards. but I like seeing WRs get boxed out and bodied by physical corners who know how to block their intended path without pulling them in any direction. I don’t want that element to ever change. Physical coverage rules. We all love Sauce Gardner right?

just saw the play in question. i was assuming they were talking about another play because of how undeniable and obvious this was
