Its hard to describe how ungodly this defense has been for, what, 4-5 years now? Carrying what has consistently been a bottom 10, often bottom 5 offense to .500+ seasons.
You can touch the WR if you don’t influence his momentum or restrain his arms. Porter boxed that mf out and gave him no space on the sideline to make the catch. That’s legal.
It’s on DPJ to create outside leverage and give himself a cushion for a sideline catch, it’s not on Porter to back off just because DPJ ran directly into the same field that Porter had the same right to be in. Get good DPJ. Not PI.
If he grabbed his jersey you’d have seen some resistance to DPJ falling backward. Porter might have put his hands on his shoulders to prevent DPJ from running directly into him. Didn’t look like he pushed him out of bounds though, looked like DPJ ran into him and then fell out of bounds on purpose trying to get low for a sideline toe tapping catch. If they called a PI on that, then that would be a LeBron James ass PI. Run into a motherfucker and use a technicality to make them foul you type shit. I’m glad that’s not how the NFL works (yet)
Porter should have every right to block DPJ’s path if he knows what route he’s running. That’s literally his job. You can’t run over a CB and say “I’m open” and expect him to just move out of your way.
Its truly amazing to think of how bad that line has been...Najee Harris is so broken that he's gonna be the Alabama RB to fail so badly in the last decade.
there’s no world where Porters momentum is moving backwards this awkwardly without DPJ literally pushing off of him, which you can also see in this footage. sure maybe if you slow the video way down it looks like he held him. An incidental grab of the jersey that did not influence his trajectory, should not be called if it was a response to DPJ literally running into him and pushing him, which is also illegal 15 yards downfield.
Browns fans will whine but they should be wondering why their 230 million dollar rapist QB js so bad at football
It’s a good no call because it is impossible not to “technically” PI if the WR literally runs into you. That is my argument. If the WR didn’t make a good faith effort to separate before the point of contact, then incidental contact by the DB while fighting for the ball should be fair game. PI should be if the DB grabs him while the WR made his best effort to get away, not if the DB merely reacted to a 200 pound body running into him.
I don’t know how catchable that ball is from this angle but he’s so unbelievably clearly grabbing the dudes jersey. I would’ve thrown the flag. And I’m a Steelers fan
