The only way I agree Fields struggles are entirely “a coaching issue” is if you’re including Ryan Day in that statement

at no point has Fields ever had proper tutelage and direction to suit the goal of becoming a starting NFL quarterback. He was always gonna have the opportunity but he straight up wasn’t prepared by Ohio State for the level of complexity required to make reads happen in the NFL. He came up in a training wheels offense that makes everything super easy for the QB, and Ohio State gets away with it because they have a huge recruiting advantage in their conference.

Bears coaches sucking is just reinforcement of what I already thought was going to happen to Fields in the NFL. I feel like even if you suck as a coach, the ONLY reason you wouldn’t dial up more than 11 passes while trailing against a division rival, is if your QB has continued to be so sloppy in practice that you can’t trust him. Granted, it is the coach’s responsibility to get Fields ready to play but I just don’t see Fields having a great week of practice and then only getting 11 attempts. That wouldn’t happen unless the game had 40 mph winds or snow and forced both teams to avoid passing the ball whenever possible (see: Mac Jones went almost a whole game without passing the ball but there was a blizzard that day.) aside from those very niche circumstances, only 11 attempts sends a strong message about what the coach is seeing on the practice field.

Imo his ceiling was Colin Kaepernick, but he was never provided a ladder so he’s closer to his floor, which is somewhere between Tyrod Taylor and Jacoby Brissett

good enough and intelligent enough to see potential and get more than one shot at being a starter… mostly avoids turnovers, mixes Taylor’s speed/agility and throwing accuracy with Brissett’s arm strength and willingness to challenge the defense with tough throws… but ultimately, like those QBs, he relies on his legs way too much and holds the football way too long, instead of developing faster ways of reading keys so he can throw the ball sooner and not be awful under pressure

I'm not talking about "struggles" I'm talking about why are you, as a touted offensive guru, calling 11 passing plays total.

Absolutely begging people to stop repeating whoever made up this narrative because it's just not true lol. I'm already angry at people in the future for when they say the same thing about CJ Stroud.

because he doesn’t trust Fields at all obviously! Not saying it’s a good coaching decision but I don’t think anything else explains why that would even happen

I mean, I already know you disagree but I didn’t just parrot this narrative. I’ve explained many many times in here why Ohio State sucks at developing quarterbacks and, why I see the same thing on all their film including Fields even though he had much more impressive raw characteristics. This was my take during the draft and nothing in his NFL career has proven me even a little bit wrong on that take

If you don't trust Fields, don't take the job. Dude chose to leave Aaron Rodgers specifically to prove himself as a playcaller.

I feel like you can express the concerns without helmet scouting though. You can criticize Fields for things but acting like there's a long history with the program, at least one comparable to Fields's level, isn't accurate.

If you’re gonna suck you may as well find out what you’ve got in a live game instead of throwing 11 passes and kicking the can down the road.

Plus it’s the fucking packers. Bears fans would rather you take a shot at beating them then make the playoffs lol. This IS our playoffs.

In the modern nfl there’s no excuse to throw that few outside of crazy weather. Trubisky threw 33 times today!

I'd be scared about the Texans taking Stroud but the Stingley over Sauce pick leads me to think they're more of a Bryce squad. Just sure as shit better not be Indy.

yeah, I mean maybe Fields is worse than he thought. But also I’m not excusing the coach I def think he’s to blame to an extent as well

i agree about not helmet scouting but like, the same coach is still there calling the same playbook haha… isn’t it only helmet scouting if you assume the school retains all the same problems even after a coaching change? My opinions on Fields as a prospect came from watching him.

but this isn’t meant to be a strong counter argument if you still disagree that’s fine

I mean Trubisky’s had several years and is STILL this bad so… lol

  14. Trubisky had that one kinda good year when the Bears won 12 games

Justin Fields legitimately cannot throw the football

not that I think Trubisky is good because he is not, but his career stats are:

    64% completion, 66 TD, 39 INT, 6.7 YPA

that blows Fields out of the water

Ya’ll weren’t forced to watch Trubisky yesterday and your privilege is showing. Do better.

  18. I’ve watched decades of terrible Chicago QB play and Justin Fields is the worst

No, he's probably not because the bears won't allow him. But he's def not the worst QB the bears have had in the last 10 years lol
