Mariota needed to go to a scheme willing to highlight his strengths - he did not. And despite constantly changing coaches, they've never actually brought someone in that fits Mariota. Mariota has faults and is a bottom tier starting QB (maybe THE bottom) but he was also horribly mismanaged.

I don’t think he magically would’ve learned how to throw with anticipation just cause he went to a team that babied him more
I just don’t think that argument flies haha. It’s not on an NFL team to try to be more like a college team. Other way around. College player needs to learn new layers to his skill set to be able to compete in the NFL.

It’s not antiquated haha. There’s a reason why there’s an overall difference in strategy. Not as easy to play spread offense football against much better defensive lines and coverage. Some coaches are still good enough to do it but it’s not actually that common.
It's becoming more common and more players are able to do this. So acting like there's a set way to be in the NFL is going to just result in getting more and more stuck in the past.
Idk I still think blaming the coaching is weak. Deshaun Watson is anticipating passes and playing drop-back football just fine in Houston despite B’OB being very stuck in his ways and unwilling to accent his team to match their strengths Lamar has already shown he’s taken great strides in that direction and that the Ravens are likely to limit his reckless running already, one year into his career. Some QB get it and some don’t. And I say this admitting the Jags aren’t good at finding that guy either. My main point is that anticipation is a necessary means of beating good defenses regardless what else that QB is capable of. Its not about that quarterback’s style, it’s just a requisite skill they all should learn regardless. I don’t see it out of Mariota so I don’t think he’s good. He might have good games against defenses that poorly prepared but I don’t fear him beating good defense.
I think Mariota absolutely has his flaws, but he is certainly not helped by his coaches not putting him in positions to succeed more often. It’s a shame because he showed promise in 2016, but his coaches have just wanted to center their offense around the running games with Derrick Henry/DeMarco Murray and it just turned into a bland offense with not much help for Mariota. I mean, look at his WR corps over the years.
