Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Remember when it was argued Jimmy G was a better option than Stafford lol

Somehow saying I would rather have Jimmy G + two 1st round picks than Stafford is interpreted as Jimmy is better than Stafford. Still feel pretty good about that opinion given the inconsistent season Stafford has had despite having the best pass blocking OL in football

Stafford hasn’t been THAT inconsistent to be fair. He had bad games against Tennessee and SF, and didn’t do enough vs ARI the first time. Those are 3 pressure heavy teams that could get past that line. Outside of those 3 games he’s basically pretty reliable for 250-330 yards and 3 touchdowns

Stafford has had pretty much just as good of a year as Brady to this point. He’s somehow still underrated lol

    The rivalry is back on

This game was a reminder for me of how much worse ET is for primetime games than PT. Instead of the game wrapping up around 8 or 8:30, I went to sleep during a tie game to wake up and see “oh I guess the Titans won”

Is it a cop out to say I like both?

I like Stafford a lot more than Jimmy G and it’s a safer move, but the combination of keeping Garropolo for a year as a stop gap to then hand the reins to Trey Lance (who is roughly what those picks turned into) and getting another high pick back this offseason for Jimmy G feels like good roster management without being in a place of Super Bowl or bust, assuming that’s how it plays out

they do not appear to even have enough IOL on roster (including practice squad) to field a line without sliding a tackle over lol

Problem is, at a certain point, you are just perpetually building a 9-7 type team. Jimmy G is the stop gap now, but he was the solution 4-5 years ago and how did that go? And he was far more ready than Lance is right now. The 49ers are right there with a few other teams (Browns as one of them) who have done the stockpile picks move and keep saying "next year is our year" and nearly a decade later it just stops being true.

I think I'd rather my team make a move for THE guy than keep shuffling deck chairs. And I say this knowing its EXACTLY what the Steelers have done with their offense for the last 5 years. Just keep propping up Big Ben and not paying our skill guys or buying OL and wondering why its falling apart

the difference is that they got Trey Lance while they still had Jimmy G, which looks like a clear succession plan for their stopgap QB, as opposed to having old man Ben as the aging starter and Mason Rudolph and similar level backups for the past half decade. The Chiefs’ plan with Alex Smith as a semi-long term starter into Patrick Mahomes when the opportunity presented itself to acquire him and after sitting for a year is the best analog I can think of (with the caveat that Lance hasn’t proven to actually be good yet while Mahomes is clearly great)

I still like Lance and trading up for him is pretty clearly THE move for the Lynch regime (not many GMs get a redemption shot after whiffing on a top 5 QB pick, especially when that’s not a year 1 or 2 move for you)

Game narrative since you went to sleep: Jimmy G continued to play bad because the Titans were doubling Kittle and because Jeff Wilson isnt good, while AJ Brown went the hell off. Deebo Samuel might actually somehow be more of a RB than a WR also lol

San Fran had this plan too...

There's a really funny part of this, especially since they are in the same division, where San Fran has paid almost as much since 2016 for QBs as LA has, and at best they got one year where they had a better QB (2019, and its not by much). I think the Rams have only given up one more 1st rounder in that span? And obviously the record disparities are hilarious.

Im not sure I agree that going with the project guy that might not pay off til 2023 is a great move for a GM and Coach who might not last that long. Maybe they have that certainty from the owner...but if not, the decision to spend a lot of capital on a guy who isnt providing job safety is gonna be the obvious dagger for them. I mean, at least the WFT got a really fun year and their first playoff game in a while out of doing it with RGIII.
