I hated how the defense was playin, I hated the injuries, I wanted Press to show me he’s a good OC who can squeeze a little bit more offense out of that situation by calling the right plays at the right times. He didn’t. He did what I expected him to do: kill our momentum for no reason every time we’re rolling

"It kinda still was the offense though. Why can’t we run the ball, what are we not adapting to

and I can’t think of a good reason to take Etienne out of several fourth quarter drives when he was stealing yards in the open field. I would literally be calling plays designed to throw to Etienne every other play until the Bengals did Jack shit about it.

How do we not smell blood and keep attacking the weak spots? Bengals had no issue doing that to us, they were just like “oh Campbell is rusty from injury and Cisco got hurt, bet”. Press Taylor is like “great field goal range, now let’s run it up the middle out of shotgun with our fucking backup again so that McManus can miss the kick that loses us the game.”

Press Taylor can get fucked I don’t care what Doug likes about him. 31 points or not, we had opportunities to take full control of this game."

I don't care about the pattern. I care about what the discussion was, not what you're moving the goalposts to.

It is an objective fact that we drove down the field on the first drive without Trevor. You can't deny that. That's what happened. We needed a field goal. We got a field goal. That is what happened.

In OT we needed a big play and we got a big play. That was negated by a penalty and expecting a conversion on 3rd and 17 given the circumstances is just downright absurd.

The goalposts are where they are. The Bengals were able to capitalize on our defense’s weaknesses and their backup’s shortcomings and still call a really good offensive game that allowed their backup QB to shine. We were not.

The back-up played the entire game. And the team suffered no further offensive injuries other than Burrow.

this is where we disagree. We needed a touchdown. We ran it up the middle with D’Ernest Johnson out of shotgun on second down and lost four yards. Then had to settle for a field goal which still left the door wide open to Cincy.

I’m not expecting a conversion but I am saying the Bengals were so bad at defending swing routes to the outside - to Engram, to runningbacks etc, all we needed that late in regulation was another field goal, just try to get 12-14 yards and give McManus another chance at a 50+. It was the one thing we were doing that repeatedly converted second and third downs all game. It’s also a thing that’s very easy to do even with backup QBs.

We needed a field goal. You wanted a touchdown. The game is over if we don't get a field goal so that's what we needed.

Also, that Johnson play was the drive where Beathard got us to the 5-yard line and then the penalty called it back. That run had absolutely no effect.

....did you watch the game? Because what you're saying didn't happen is literally what happened. He literally did those plays you're saying - 14 yards to Engram, 5 yards to Engram, 19 yards to ETN - and kicked the field goal.

14 yards, 5 yards, 19 yards - hmm, funny, one of those 3 would’ve converted 3rd and 17 and another one would’ve at least gotten us into 55-57 yard field goal land. 2/3 success rate. I wonder why we didn’t try it again after the deep shot got called back?

Because my gut told me their defense was gonna back off for that 3rd and 17 and make sure they don’t get burned deep again… which they did… which opens up the possibility of another 5 to 19 yard swing pass.

Like stuff that’s literally working THAT DRIVE, he will abandon the second we get into scoring range - and that infuriates me cause whatever the hell he does instead is always worse. It’s never a savvy red zone adjustment. Always a momentum killer

I mean it’s like in basketball, if two-man game between your two studs is working and the other team’s head is spinning trying to play monkey in the middle and figure out who to guard, you keep doing that and let both your studs score 30+. You don’t overcomplicate shit right when the momentum swings your way.

If deep pass / short pass / short pass / deep pass is what’s beating their 2 minute drill defense. Fucking do it. good teams do get game winning drives with average ass QBs that way. We’ve all watched enough football to see that a lot of times.

we weren't in the red zone.....we weren't in scoring range.....what the fuck are you talking about lmao. the momentum killer was the penalty that negated the thing you keep pretending never happened. bruh log off.

And then we didn’t do what most teams do successfully in that situation - pretend to throw deep but call a screen and get as close to FG range as possible. Had we tried that and not made it I’d be like “alright” but you don’t just predictably throw deep again on third and 17, that’s “beta” lol and plays right into the opponents expectations

Whatever dude lol all I’m saying is we missed opportunities to be more aggressive, particularly when we had chances to score at the end. I can be mad at the defense and Press at the same time. The defense didn’t adjust, they’re usually good but they got exploited today and that’s a problem. Our defense usually bounces back from a bad game though, so I’m a little more willing to be like “what the fuck was THAT” and then move on as long as it doesn’t keep happening.

On an entirely different plane, where my feelings from week to week carry over across a season… Press has been bad in most of these games and even in a “good game” he couldn’t make the best of a bad situation at the end. He’s just not the big balls Super Bowl playcaller Doug is and it’s clear both in his better games and in his worse games. I’m disappointed we didn’t score more than 3 points after Trevor got hurt, period. We could’ve and should’ve won in spite of our defense.
