Should be unanimous, really...if they make the playoffs, it'd be a lock. Coming off 3 coaches in 3 years, 3 straight 4 or less win seasons, trading away the franchise QB after a horrible scandal...its basically direct parallels of the Falcons in 2007->2008 where Mike Smith won COY even over John Harbaugh. And the Texans were in FAR worse shape from a talent and coaching prospects situation. Two straight single year coaches who were guys no other team was even giving more than a Rooney Rule interview... Campbell's done great, but they were a 9-8 team last year. McDaniel/Siranni, same scenario, they were coaching great teams last year as well.
Was just looking at the list and hilariously enough every coach since then had his team win double digit games (which makes sense if they always make the playoffs). Except for one! Last year, Brian Daboll and his 9-7 Giants lmao Which, to be fair, deserved the award because yeah it’s the Giants with Daniel Jones. Crazy though that 9-7 got him there.
The Zay Jones criticism 100% applies. You are correct about that. All I wanted to say was no one thought this Jags team was “that talented” coming into the season. We were an average team that overperformed last year, and the only major things we added was a second-contract linebacker who didn’t get extended by his team and a receiver who hadn’t played in two years. Our roster has definitely improved over the course of this season since week 1 and shown they’re a lot better than most folks thought. And I think we’re a little lucky the Calvin trade and Foye signing actually did work out so well, those players are performing at the absolute ceiling of what I expected initially.
