I don’t think I’d give up on Wentz. If I were the Eagles I would, but I think in a good situation he could have a decent ceiling for awhile.
Obviously this will never happen...but, the creative one that jumps to mind, you're the Jags, you have the 2nd pick in every round...skill position players at laughably dirt cheap prices for a year or two...and the Eagles are INSANELY over the cap next year, and they cant get out of any of their major contracts (aside from maybe Alshon) but for some trades. I think there's room for an Osweiler type move where the Eagles move Wentz + 2 bad contracts on June 1 (lets call it Slay + Jeffrey); that frees up $50mil in cap space for the Eagles, the Jags get a QB they think works, a solid CB, and eat Jeffrey's salary, and they trade the 2nd and 4th round selection they took for the Eagles
Ignoring the Frank Reich connection, Indy makes the most sense. Including the Frank Reich connection? I'd be concerned if he didn't go to Indy.
They're right up there with the Jags for cap space too; itd depend a lot on what the NFL cap situation and rules look like for 2021, but, if the Eagles think Hurts is the guy...they'd be crazy not to trade Wentz before he gets forgotten.
I agree, but if he starts the final 4 games, they do decently, and they keep Peterson around on the theory he can make Hurts work...then you'd have to get out of Wentz. Likewise if a new coach came in and wanted Hurts. But man, the Eagles cap situation, if its truly $175mil...its so, so bad. The only smart move is to restructure all of Wentz's guaranteed money and just fully commit to him for 2021 and 2022 basically. I just ran through, restructuring every big deal they have (Graham, Johnson, Cox, Slay, Hargrave, Brooks, etc), cutting every receiver over the age of 25 (Ertz, D-Jax, Jeffrey, Goodwin), and they're still at $190mil on the cap.
I think(?) my semi-realistic QB preference right now is: 1) Dak 2) first round QB (assuming this means someone like Jones or Trask that they fall in love with and don’t need to trade up for) 3) Wentz 4) Rivers 5) Darnold 6) first round QB that would cost at least this year’s first and next year’s first to trade up for 7) Brissett
