That Colts TD Is a perfect example of what I was talking about a few weeks ago about why I mostly don’t like Cover 2 except in very specific situations

all you have to do is distract the CB by leaking someone into the flat. And then all the pressure is on the safety. Right there the Bucs’ safety had to watch for the WR post because there’s no one to guard the middle of the end zone… which allowed Doyle to leak out late behind the CB on a wheel route.

It’s just too easy to throw 2-3 mid-long range routes at cover 2 in a Drive or Flood concept passing play, and use a TE or a receiving back to freeze the CB, putting all the downfield pressure on one safety

essentially the safety has to guess what the QB is gonna do and totally sell out in that direction, which makes him really easy to “look off” or bait into a mistake if a veteran QB is patient and has some protection.
