I just think I have a lot of respect for how hard the NFL is, and how teams can’t expect to be perfect every game even with stuff they’re usually good at, and how elite players - not just Kelce but a lot of them - rarely ever gets truly “shut down” but it’s a team sport they also can’t win by themselves, and how even poop ass MVS players will beat you like he almost just did tongiht if you don’t take them seriously

So let him beat you instead of the lifeblood of the offense.

 

If I lose a game, where I neutralized Travis Kelce and MVS beats me, I’m prepared to sleep that night.

If I lose a game because I was afraid to cover Kelce appropriately because of MVS or Toney I’m spending the entirety of my life screaming into a mirror “you’re an idiot!!!!”

 

It’s not black and white because gameplans constantly change. It’s more of a 70/30. Prioritize Kelce but you still gotta commit at least 5 guys to the rest of the field and change it up when they start beating you by using Kelce as a decoy for misdirection or for other routes. It’s not even about the receivers, it’s more about how much field you can stop Mahomes from throwing to.

 

This is just not hard to understand and feels like arguing just to argue.

What about the Chiefs WRs has told you I need to commit more than the absolute minimum??? God damn it.

 

It’s harder to understand than we’re giving it credit for. Triple teams are basically nonexistent in the NFL for a reason. Teams don’t even put true triple teams on Justin Jefferson, cause at the end of the day a 200 yard JJ game is not the all encompassing reason why you lose to the Vikings. Patriots Randy Moss is possibly the only guy in history who got that much attention

 

Like literally you and Brandon are talking about how you may have a shot at the #1 seed, but also when I acknowledge the Chiefs weaknesses you argue against them? God damn it. Just say Will Poulter ruled in The Bear.

 

@EntryLevelTank were you saying put three corners in man on Kelce and run the same play over and over or were you saying run the defense with the primary goal of stopping Kelce by any means

My exact point has been have one person Jam Kelce at the line, have a second person hit him at yard 4 and have a 3rd person cover him from there on. Idc who. Idc what person 1 and 2 do. He should be physically abused 100% of plays and should receive the exact amount of attention 2007 Randy Moss would receive.

 

Cause teams already make stopping Kelce their main goal. But even in an 8 catch 140 yard game, Kelce only needs 8-10 plays out of like 90 to get open. You can play well against him and focus on him 80% of the game and he’ll still do that to you

 

This seems very basic and simple and agreeable

 

It’s also whittled down from the more aggressive things he’s said in the past when we last discussed this

 

Like, this isn’t just me a dumb fan talking. The Patriots have done fine against the Chiefs, even post Brady, because they MAUL Kelce. Whatever happens happens, Kelce should leave looking like the physical version of Taylor Swift’s lyrical victimhood.

 

There’s also only a few plays that actually do that without leaving 70% of the field open, which I already pointed out, and if you keep calling those you get way too predictable

 

See? Right there. That’s the difference that you continuously overlook. I couldn’t give a single fuck if 70% of the field is open. I genuinely couldn’t. Care more about what the Rats outside are eating for dinner.

if Kelce is neutralized, I’m happy.

 

At the end of the day my take is Reid and Mahomes can beat a defense that’s too predictable even with Kelce finishing with 2 catches for 17 yards by spreading the ball around to 70 overall, late round skill position players. They have already done it. If shutting down Kelce always worked then you’d see it more but they win plenty of his off games too

 

THEN LET THEM. I would prefer Mahomes and Reid have to at least TRY to beat me vs just having what they wanna do come naturally lol
