Telling y'all, the only reason Kelce gets open so much and doesn't get tripled every play is because the other options are even worse and make it even easier for KC to win. I'd rather stop the bleeding, limit them to 21 points even if Kelce gets 140 yards in the process, etc than leave wide openings for Mahomes to make 1) big plays downfield 2) get the other 70% of his yards doing easy shit

They do it with Cover 1 concepts that focus on taking away the middle of the field. they don't just straight up triple team him. Those are very different things. You can chip him, and bracket him below and up top, all without abandoning the goal of the Cover 1 Robber. Doing it with Cover 2 and Cover 3 isn't as easy, but you still have to mix those in and accept the risk of Kelce getting more open in order to discourage them from just calling plays that exploit Cover 1 Robber. NO team can call the same defense every play and win.
