And it also matters that we were down by 3 scores in the fourth in those comeback games, this wasn’t just one touchdown drive

Like Trevor’s main problem is 5 of the last 6 years he’s been coached by Dabo Swinney, Urban Meyer and Press Taylor lmao 2022 is the only time an actually good play caller by NFL passing standards was calling the plays - and I fucking hate Doug for pawning off that responsibility during the most important years of Trevor’s development, he was very public and adamant about doing so and I will never understand it. Our offense and the decisions we were making situationally were clearly worse in 2023 and 2024 to anyone who had eyes

 

Man if you look at some of those games in 2022….not really helping the case lol

a 13-6 loss to the 3-13-1 Houston Texans. 0 touchdowns 2 interceptions

40-14 loss to Detroit, throwing less than 200 yards

7 pt loss to the Jeff Saturday Colts

The Philly game where he fumbled 4 times

 

Wait Jeff Saturday caught a win????

 

Upon further research I’m not sure he coached that game

 

But yes he did win 1 game, vs the raiders

 

I was there lol. We started 3-6 and yeah aside from a ridiculously good game against the Chargers he looked very up and down beginning of his second year.

But Then when we were 4-7 he turned it on and started playing lights out and doing things a year 2 QB had no business doing, like orchestrating 3 score fourth quarter comebacks against the Ravens and Cowboys in their stadiums. And he kept that level of play up long enough into 2023 to where the narrative that our whole offense nosedived because of Press Taylor getting figured out and not adjusting makes perfect sense and it’s not just “he got hot and overperformed”. There were multiple games first half of 2023 where h started off going like 13 of 15 for 175 yards and a TD - I was getting so frustrated that Press Taylor coiled into a ball and stopped being aggressive, and only really gave him a few downfield throws per game when he was playing like that. Eventually defenses figured out they could blitz all the time and Press wouldnt do shit to make them regret it. The end. That in my opinion is what tanked our offense and led to Trevor’s regression

 

Yeah 5 wins in a row to end the season, 4 of those games against non playoff teams

2022 jags notable losses - obviously not all on Trevor BUT if gets credit for the comebacks why not this too

vs Commies - up 8 11:45 left in game, lost by 6
Vs eagles - up 14-0 through the first Q, outscored 29-7 after that and the 7 came in the 4th
Vs Houston - never had the lead
Vs Indy - up 14-3 early in 2nd, outscored 31-13 after
Vs giants - up 4 in 3rd Q, gave up 10 points in 4th
Vs KC - down 20-0 to start if you can’t run with the big dogs stay on the porch arf arf
Vs Detroit - only TD scored when Jax was already down 24

 

Realizing how much it sucks Brandon Linder retired early lol. He was there for like ALL the bad Jax years of Gus Bradley, Doug Marrone and Urban Meyer, and then retired before age 30 despite consistently being rated as a good to great Center when healthy, right before the Jags 2022 playoff run.

I can imagine things going a LITTLE bit better for Trevor Lawrence if he had a little more luck with our offensive line. But we:
-Lost Brandon Linder, the best Jags OL of the last decade
-kept making excuses for Cam Robinson’s shitty pass blocking instead of letting Walker Little take his job way earlier
-signed Brandon Scherff past his decline when he only kept getting more injured and worse at football
-never really did anything to address the interior line - drafted shitty Luke Fortner, and kept taking bad players with long arms in the mid rounds (Maason Smith, Javon Foster, Jordan Jefferson all in 2024, Tyler Lacy in 2023) instead of adding competition at G and C.

Baalke really just expected 1) Little playing the wrong position, 2) Fortner constantly sucking, 3) Scherff constantly being hurt with no quality backup, 4) Cam constantly getting beat by the opponent’s best speed rusher, to be good enough at OL for a developing QB. Crazy work.

 

game one of year 2 wasn’t great. I was at that game and was disappointed.

I was also at this game, soaking wet, with @Dinkleberg - we lost to a Super Bowl team in their stadium in torrential rain, not a surprise

yeah awful game all around but we did get them back in game two

A little more on the defense - Jonathan Taylor carved us the motherfuck UP this game I’m pretty sure and Ryan did what he wanted against our secondary.

but again our other game against them we won 24-0 and Trevor played great, divisional games be like that sometimes

No excuse for these they were embarrassing for sure but we hung with KC a little better in the playoffs at least
