It wasn’t a good game and the coaches deserve a lot of blame but let’s also not overreact. A LOT also went wrong in that game that had nothing to do with play calling.

For what it's worth, if Etienne cradles the ball into the end zone like other good runningbacks usually do, we're going into the fourth quarter up 24-7 and Miami doesn't have the momentum that may have contributed to the 80 yard Hill TD. Then we'd be talking about how it was an awesome gameplan and how we're glad we established the rushing attack

The coaching did not salvage the game after the fact and that sucks - wasn't a good fourth quarter. But the tide definitely turned due to poor execution imo. Jags kept making mistakes and eventually the dam broke. I def have issues with situational playcalling (especially pass playcalling) and gameflow - but the overall approach to the game, I don't have a problem with. Our defense was balling and even our backup runningback was getting running room. We wanted to keep Achane and Hill off the field cause we knew they'd eventually do a lot of damage if they kept getting targets and opportunities. Ball control is generally a good way to beat an explosive but finesse team like the Dolphins that just lost Christian Wilkins, I'm good with that.

It's the way we handled the adversity when the whole game flipped upside down that the coaches lost me. I wanna see us silence that crowd immediately after that Hill bomb with two 12+ yard completions back to back and get Trevor ready for a 4th quarter battle with Tua. But that's not "FIRE DOUG" yet after one game, although it is alarming to see that pattern return after last year. Hoping to see better situational decisions, but I also don't think this amount of flukeyness in the players' execution should continue to be normal, there are much better gamedays for the Jags ahead. (And if Doug hasn't yanked that playsheet from Press yet PLEASE my man.)

 

I just don't understand seeing Trevor thrive when they let him be aggressive in year 2 and then never letting him do that again since

 

Oh I mean my comment was more just joking sarcastically, however, I feel like myself from afar heard all 2nd half of last year and offseason about playing calling, coaching, scheme, not letting Lawrence sling it, etc, etc. and then they come out in the 2nd half and pass the ball 7 times, letting an explosive offense come back due to mistakes (which aren't new with this team!) and I feel like the general vibe is in the exact place it ended last season.

I get trying to run the ball and grind the clock when having a lead, but the thing is, a team like Miami only needs 1 PLAY to get back into it. And it happened. And after not creating a rythym in the passing game for the 2nd half, when the game was on the line Lawrence was shaky and didn't come up. Whether that is him or coaching, sure.

I don't want to overreact and you're closer in tune with the team than me but I see teams let up in the 2nd half when they have a lead and take the ball out of their (HIGHEST PAID QB IN THE LEAGUE'S HAND) and time and time again blow it. Drives me nuts lol

 

The irritating thing is Lawrence has played best when they're passing consistently and I just don't understand why they always move away from it. Makes no sense.
