Preach! Been trying to get the chuckleheads in the longtime league here to make the move but they’re all too scared to buck tradition.
“scared?” It’s like you haven’t read any of my 8 paragraph posts about why kickers are a valid fantasy position hahaha
I just think getting “lucky” with a kicker is part of the game. People acting like every other position doesn’t create just as much of a points swing based on coincidence and game flow… getting red zone opportunities at the right time yes, you can predict RB and WR better… that’s why they score a lot more points. The difference between a kicker scoring 0 and scoring like 11, is the same as your WR1 scoring 30 some weeks and 15 others
It’s the same argument as saying blackjack is better gambling because you “control” it more. Unless you’re counting cards, your chance of winning isn’t any better… if anything you have to be really good at the strategy just to have the same odds as an entirely luck based game
i always pick kickers last no matter what. dont want to overspend on the "best" kickers when you can just get an average kicker on a team that can move the ball a little but you know is still mediocre therefore have limited redzone success.
The best thing would be for it to be an int for the defender but not an int for the qb, it’s not his fault the wr stinks Sorry burreaux
I’ve picked up top 5 kickers on waivers all the time. People don’t bother looking out there. I’ve seen guys just sit there while people start like the 18th ranked kickers in a 10 team league.
Look up the theory of Expected Utility. It really explains why, even though the points difference is the same as any other position, losing because of a kicker infuriates us more than losing because our RB1 didn’t perform. It also explains why we tend to be overconfident in things that actually have a lot of volatility / uncertainty, if we feel like we can explain their patterns with rhetoric. But in fact, uncertainty in a player’s performance - injuries included - is a pretty prevalent feature of every fantasy football position. long story short fantasy football is 70% luck no matter how you spin it and it’s human nature to lie to ourselves and say “oh it’s because of the kicker” just because we understand those patterns the least.
