It was a designed play.

Jeremy Bates called some real head-scratchers. The boot wheel throwback on the first play of the game with a rookie QB is super ballsy and it absolutely did not work. He scripts everything and probably thought he could pull a fast one on Detroit and get a huge play to start it off.

The 3rd and 1 counter toss to Robby Anderson is one of the dumbest playcalls I've ever seen. Way too cute there.
