i think ultimately the eagles aren’t going to be able to succeed against this defense solely running the ball. they will eventually have to pass. i just don’t trust jalen to do that successfully at this stage. i also think kelce wakes up finally

Well it's less about the OL holding up, because 3.31 seconds is a pretty long time. It's more about the receivers being able to create separation. And WR to CB is one of the areas where I think the Eagles have an advantage.

from the article, my notes in parentheses

Tampa Bay accomplished this against Mahomes in the Super Bowl after the 2020 season. (all time bad loss, didn't have either starting tackle) Denver did it against Mahomes in Week 8 of 2023. (mahomes had the flu or more likely covid) The Raiders beat him twice this way, in Week 5 of 2020 (40-32 loss, Mahomes sacked 3 times, defense gave up 59 yard catch to Nelson Agholor and 72 yard catch to Henry Ruggs) and Week 16 of 2023. (prob 3rd worst loss by Mahomes, Raiders had 2 defensive TDs, AOC threw for only 62 yards) Those four games and the 2018 AFC title game against New England produced Mahomes' five longest time-to-throw (or sack) games. (OT loss after questionable offsides call on Dee Ford, KC scored 24 in 4th quarter) Kansas City lost all five.

More telling part of that stat is that Mahomes has nearly 80 games where he's < 3s time to throw, when Lamar has like 20...its an entire offense built around much faster release times. "Make Mahomes Hold the Ball" is like saying "Stop the Tush Push" is your strategy. Every team is trying that, they're all failing for much deeper reasons

That said, its probably also a function of mediocre WRs for KC and build the offense to get them open fast, cause they arent going to create seperation on broken plays

yeah I don't think comparing time to throw stats against scrambling QBs like Lamar really works

The Eagles have feasted on teams beating themselves, the Chiefs beat themselves less than anyone. Not much for analysis but there ya go

And there’s nothing I care less about than comparing roster talent player by player. There’s a reason everyone makes fun of offseason champs

Not that my view of the game differs from anything said here and it’s nothing new, but Barkley is the most important part of this game.

If KC limits Barkley, relying on Hurts to win with his arm ain’t something I’d bet on. This season’s version of Hurts holds on to the ball way too long which forces negative and dumb plays. Against Mahomes, the margin is way too slim for that.

The Eagles also don’t turn the ball over, like I get the Mahomes factor but like the Chiefs haven’t really played a complete team like the Eagles. I’m more curious to see if KC can match the Eagles physicality because that’s one thing most teams haven’t been able to match.

Not to be that guy but I think someone on the Eagles have to take a shot at Mahomes early and make him feel a little pain.

Either way I can’t sit through a KC three peat. They are so insufferable, Mahomes is probably more insufferable than Brady.

Idk I can see people being more annoyed by Mahomes than Brady solely because of his media appearances compared to Brady's since he wasn't really as unleashed in that way until he got to Tampa

The recency bias in media exposure though is ignoring the past of Peyton Manning everywhere
