I should be looking at the bright side, that we overperformed if anything and that I got to see an extremely unlikely, all-time great comeback win in the playoffs live. That the Jags are now a competitive football team and the days of us being a joke are over for as long as we have Doug coaching and Trevor throwing.

still shaking my head slowly that we missed so many clear opportunities to finish strong though. When KC is at their worst like that you gotta take advantage. Even after we dropped a pick 6 and a 60 yard pass, even after we got called for bogus penalties, Agnew still could’ve held onto the ball at the 5 yard line with 4 min left in the game, and gave us a chance to shave the lead to 24-27, with all 3 timeouts still. We actually DID stop the next KC drive too. The comeback was in his hands. Fucking frustrating that winning the game was always on the table and we simply FAILED to reach out and grab it.

I don’t want to hear anyone say we don’t need receivers. Christian Kirk made 3 major mistakes on third downs that he was OPEN. Calvin Ridley has not played football since the BEGINNING of 2021 almost 2 years ago. Evan Engram might be gone. Jamal Agnew is literally our WR4 who comes in when somebody’s hurt and we saw what happens when we rely on him as a pass catcher. Hell yeah the Jags need receivers and I’m gonna take the W / the “I was right” on that thank you very much. Interior pass rusher, slot corner, and interior offensive line are needs too but needs that can be filled in the 2nd thru 5th round. I am absolutely in favor of spending at least a second round pick on a legitimately strong receiving weapon.

 

Like no matter how many nice plays Kirk made this year, he was absolutely not a WR1 / go to guy this game. He failed to step up when Trevor was doing everything he could to come back.

I can’t unsee Trevor throwing a 60 yard DIME behind the safeties like it was a pro day work out and Kirk wasting it. I can’t unsee him slipping twice on a third down corner route that would’ve been wide open, and not making it to the clean spot Trevor correctly anticipated and threw to. I can’t unsee him dropping another third down pass that was sorta contested at the last moment, but also the kind of tough catch actual WR1s make weekly. Even David fuckin Tyree found a way to use his helmet to make sure the safety couldn’t knock the ball out from zone coverage 10 yards away, when it was time to come back in he playoffs. Even Keelan fuckin Cole stepped his game up and caught ridiculous passes the last time we were in the playoffs.

Just being good at route running and separation isn’t enough. I need to see my lead receiver dominate guys even when he’s well covered, even when it’s wet and slippery outside. Cause at the end of the day, that’s what the playoffs is motherfucker. Other smaller WR1s who rely more on speed still make contested grabs. Look at Diggs, Cooks, Chase, (fuck Hill but Hill), etc. Other WR1s are still so good in the rain the corners are slipping in key moments, not them. And you just don’t see those guys drop deep bombs in the playoffs. Unacceptable.

If I don’t see that mentality where the ball is yours before it even touches your hands, I don’t want it.
