what are the best bars in the city? in hamilton heights (between harlem and washington heights) for the next two and a half weeks for grad school. I'm looking for good beer bars to see this weekend when I actually have some free time.
Yo guys, anyone know of an extra Frankie Cosmos ticket for 8/6 at Bowery? Stubhub prices are laughable
Torst is highly regarded, but it is overtly fancy, and usually very crowded. I'd also recommend (since you're in Manhattan): Proletariat and Jimmy's 43 in the East Village, and Beer Culture in Midtown.
unfortunately I'm leaving tomorrow so I probably won't be able to make it to these bars. but I'll make sure they're on my list for next year. Torst was very cool and luckily not that crowded until we decided to leave.
I used a combination of craigslist and various facebook groups like gypsy housing nyc/brooklyn. From my experience with craigslist (here and in Chicago), the listings that don't have pictures have a lot of potential--depending on whether or not the post looks like spam. Also, anything that sounds too good to be true in Manhattan is definitely too good to be true.
Recently used a company called Roomeze - not sure what your current living situation is (moving alone or with others) but they were really helpful and no/low fee iirc. Roomeze
Thank you! I used the service but ended up taking something off Craigslist. I found an awesome apartment in Bushwick on Starr St.
Bushwick is great, I've lived there for the past year. Go to Roberta's for pizza. You won't regret it.
I will be sure to do that, thanks for the recommendation. I'm right down the street from Tortilleria Mexicana Los Hermanos, and everyone I've talked to said the tacos there are amazing.
Oooh is that the place that's inside the tortilla factory? If so, everyone is right haha. You lucked out location-wise! There's a ton of great stuff to do in like a 5-block radius of you. Random, but if you're into rock climbing, there's a brand new gym opening down the street from you soon too.
Pretty much the only reason go to Bushwick is to get tacos from Los Hermanos (and I guess to see a couple friends, but mostly for the tacos).
I need fall. union square has got to be one of the hottest stations in this city. also, rode my bike past that tortilla factory and had no idea you could get food in there. will check it out this week!
I think it's 34th street by a wide margin, most of them are super hot though. I prefer freezing in outside stations.
When I first got here, I was trying to figure out the hype around Bushwick. Then I found that I'm a 20-30 minute walk from all the hip shit. There's one cool spot by me called Salud. They used to have bottomless mimosas for $7, but they changed it to $10 recently which still isn't too bad.
Yea, it was pretty much always associated with Brownsville and other bad areas. Armor for sleep hyped the area too hard.
Yo everyone. Again, I will be in your lovely city from September 1st through the 11th. Here's my concert schedule for the nights I'm there. Days, I have no real plans yet, so hit me up with things that should be seen while there! I realize there's a fuckton, but still. Maybe I'll see you at a show! 9/2 - Alicia Keys @ Rockefeller Plaza 9/3 - Gates / Rare Futures / Vasudeva / Athletics @ Mercury Lounge 9/4 - Summer's End Fest Day 3 (W/ Mal Blum among others) @ Aviv 9/6 - Lianne La Havas @ Webster Hall 9/8 - Hum / Touche Amore / Basement @ Terminal 5 9/9 - Ian Sweet / Horse Jumper of Love / Florist / Hovvdy @ Shea Stadium 9/10 - The Anniversary / Laura Stevenson @ Bowery Ballroom
