Living in Manhattan doesn't really interest me. Moving back to Queens is a forseable option in the future, though I'd rather get away from this whole area in general.
I'm coming over to New York for my 30th with my girlfriend this year. Birthday is in September but coming over in October as a wilhelm scream are playing in Brooklyn then and I can't miss that. Haha. I was wondering if anyone on here who has been/lives there could recommend things to do/visit (besides the obvious attractions) including any good bars/clubs (preferably rock based etc.) to go to. Thanks in advance
If you want to go to a bar, you could go to duffs. It's not far from there either. It's a big metal/rock haven for tools who think they're \m/ but I would definitely recommend it for tourists. You could also check out there Williamsburg waterfront near the venue, on Saturday's they have something called smorgasburg (not sure how late it goes into the year but I'd guess they'd still be there in October). I could recommend other stuff but it depends where you think you'll be, where you're staying etc. I suppose.
Nice one. Thank you very much. Will definitely check those out. Yeah, going to be booking our flights tonight I think. Managed to get the tickets for a wilhelm scream, so definitely going in October now. Just need to find place to stay. If you had any recommendations on reasonable accommodation, hotels or hostels that'd be great. We aren't fussed where. As long as it's not too far from saint vitus bar/the main attractions of NY. Haha
I don't know what the pricing is like at this hotel but it's in Williamsburg and within walking distance or super short cab rid to St. Vitus. you'll also be close to the L train and can easily get into Manhattan. Greenpoint is the neighborhood where St. Vitus is and there's a lot of good bars in the area. I personally like The Diamond, A Bar, Greenpoint Beer and Ale, and Sunshine Laudromat (shhhh it's a 'speakeasy'). Brooklyn Brewery is also very close, Smorgasburg is a great rec and it goes in to October. Hotel Le Jolie - A Boutique Hotel in Brooklyn, NY
Thank you. Really appreciate the suggestions. That's great going to be looking at acommodation soon. Booking flights tomorrow. Can't wait. Been wanting to go to New York for a long time now. Haha. Those all sound great. Brooklyn brewery would be cool to go to and just out of curiosity, can you get deftones' phantom bride beer in New York? Wanted to try it but can't get it shipped over to Scotland.
Hey, does anyone have a good recommendation for a comedy club or open mic night tomorrow in New York? Looking to see some stand up and have a few drinks.
Comedy Cellar or Caroline's are I'd say the two big ones, Comedy Cellar has like 5 comedians a show and is famous for being on Louie and where people like Aziz and Chris Rock go to workshop material, not guaranteed they'll show obviously , Caroline's is more traditional
I would do the cellar over carolines, carolines is kind of a rip off IMO and there's a chance someone big can walk into the cellar at any moment. There's a few other places, I can't think of them off the top of my head rn
going out in long beach or on the nautical mile in freeport is a good call with a lot of options, and you're on/near the water which is nice for summer. rockville centre, farmingdale, and huntington also have some nightlife near the train stations. can't help much for farther east
Thinking about flying out for a couple days to see The Mighty Mighty Bosstones in July. Shit's expensive for a 3 night trip, though.
How hot do the subways get during July? Is there a good place to rent a road bike for a day? Should I check out any other boroughs besides manhattan? Safe to walk around in the wee hours of the night? I plan to see a couple landmarks but I'll probably spend most of my time walking around/exploring the city. I have roughly 4-5 days and 4 nights.
It's awfullllll, in Manhattan every train is underground so it's the worst there. Every other borough has a mix. There's a ton of safe neighborhoods, queens and Brooklyn have the quickest commute to the city though. Brooklyn has way more stuff to see that you could do without going to the city, IMO.
Thanks. I'm staying in Manhattan so I figured I could venture out a little bit. I'll look into Queens and Brooklyn.
The museum of moving image in Astoria is awesome, I always recommend that when talking about queens haha
I was only in Brooklyn for a little bit. Mainly walked to that cool park by the docks, the bridge and then Brooklyn Brewery.
