whoa. I'd thought this was an official band-sanctioned thing based on how they were leading up to it. jeez.
The biggest mistake IMO was thinking 2k was the right pressing number. The demand for this has been years in the building.
My guess is that they are going through and processing refunds if there are multiple orders. Probably takes a while to go through everything.
Feel bad that the band is seeing backlash on something like this. Knew it would happen, but none of it's run by them.
I had one in my cart when the site crashed, site came back up and I checked out fine with confirmation email and everything. Wonder if I actually got one or it'll be refunded
I would assume the band still gets paid on these licensed releases right? There was $80,000 in revenue in 2 minutes...
I know very little about how licensing/rights work in general, let alone for this specific record. Was there a reason the band wasn’t able to license the rights to this before some small indie label could?
Given how pissed Chad was when ETR tried to press Catalyst and happy he was with Triple-B pressing Sticks, it seems to boil down to which label is pressing it. That can certainly be his preference as the artist, but NFG doesn't own the record and doesn't really get a say in how Universal licenses it. But with only 2K pressed, I doubt it would matter which label pressed it ... there were always going to be people left out. But when your friends are doing it, you're more willing to forgive and believe they tried their best when it's a shit show – which the Sticks on-sale certainly was.
Simply put, it’s very hard to do and a pain in the ass which is why it’s easier for existing labels to deal with. At least according to the dude from Unoriginal Vinyl who does the licensed represses of the Tooth and Nail / Solid State releases from Capital. Apparently it took like 9 years to strike a license deal with them.
Got my confirmation at 11:01 and checked my account a few times since and the charge is still there. Looks like I'm good. Hopefully there will be more pressings for those that didn't get one
According to Chad's story, 10K people were attempting to purchase. That's crazy. Really hope there's another pressing on the way, but with vinyl delays (i'm sure T-Swift is gobbling up huge numbers on vinyl for her preorder), I wouldn't expect to see another pressing in-hand till sometime next year.
Makes me sad that people didn't get them. And feel very lucky rn. Also really hope another pressing goes up for people.
10,000 attempting to purchase just this morning? I mean, I know that's not a huge number, but still, it would almost have to inspire a weird mix of satisfaction (that the record is very much in demand) and frustration (not enough pressed to satisfy) for the band. I'd love for them to explore this sound more in depth on future work.
You know you’re reading deep and hustling if you have to flip vinyl records. Especially from NFG. Wtf. Anyways, events like this will only remind me of the Absolutepunk TBS reunion announcement
