It's weird because they released Situations on their Greatest Hits before NWAF, and I loved that song. Then before Resurrection, they recorded I Want to Believe and Connect The Dots, which were great. I don't know why they couldn't record anything quite that strong for the albums surrounding those releases. And I'm not saying the proper albums are bad, but I just think Coming Home was their last really strong record.
I really liked Situations and Connect the Dots too. I think there's some good songs on NWAF, Radiosurgery and Resurrection but usually only 3 or 4 songs worth and the rest is filler to me. So yeah again I agree with you that their last really strong record was Coming Home. It's possible that they just peaked with Self Titled/Stick and Stones/Catalyst albums. And since then have had trouble making quality front to back albums (excluding Coming Home).
I would love to really connect with a NFG record again, but I do have my doubts. It's been since Coming Home for me. There are certainly songs from the subsequent releases that I like, but nothing has really pulled me in start to finish.
Don't lump NWAF in with Radiosurgery/Resurrection.. It's clear NWAF has actual catchy hooks unlike those other two.
Has anyone hear heard "The Enemy" which was on their Resurrection re-release? Should've made the album the first time around.
The tempo switch for the chorus is a bit awkward but damn the riffs/verses are catchy. It's definitely interesting enough to warrant inclusion on that album. I like it overall. This band and their bonus tracks...they're always typically very good. I don't get it.
Agreed on the great b-sides comment. Gonna see if I can pick a favorite from each album cycle... NFG - So Many Ways Sticks - Anniversary Catalyst - Constant Static Coming Home - Make It Right But man, they're all so good. There are like two from the Coming Home cycle I'm not huge on, but I think there were 6 total so I'll give 'em a pass.
Besides a few exceptions I've never really looked at NFG as a great "album band" anyway. Most of the albums just have better highlights than others imo
I'm always excited for new NFG. I haven't been into the last two so hopefully this next one delivers.
Adding NFG to this has me sold. MB is a great bonus and I enjoy a decent amount of ND songs despite not loving them.
Looks like Aaron Sprinkle is involved with the new record. An interesting combo that I wouldn't have expected from these guys.
I'd be interested to hear a Neal Avron produced NFG record in 2016 (same with a couple FOB songs). Didn't realize he had some mixing credits on blink's California. Anybody know which song(s)?
Looks like NFG finished recording and now the album is in the mixing phase. Wonder if we'll get the first single next month/before the end of the year. Guessing the album will be out in Feb or March. Definitely interested in hearing it but don't want to get my hopes up as I feel like they haven't really had a solid album since Coming Home.
Well if they include a vinyl preorder I bet the release will be spring time. It seems a lot of new releases are pushed back to accommodate the vinyl craze.
