They mentioned during the acoustic stream that they were recording 4-5 new songs with Will Pugh for a deluxe version of Forever + Ever x Infinity.

Was hoping for a bit more variety during the show, but it was a good event overall and the songs sounded great acoustic.

So I was saying they should be doing an album with him. Now all they need to do is co-write and song with W Ryan Key and for this and I’ll see how awesome my suggestion turns out.

I think the goal could be to write less juvenile lyrics. I didn’t listen to Forever much, but the music was fine. It just felt like lyrics you’d find from a 17 year old pop punk band and not so

That and the vocal melodies were just ... weird. A lot of songs with too many syllables per line, weird rhymes. Just a very bad album.

  11. I think it’s time for them to write another “mature” album like Coming Home. They need a bit of a reset like that I think.

Yup, after the lyrics this was my biggest complaint. So many weird songwriting decisions.

They did that with Makes Me Sick no?

Completely agree but the problem is Coming Home bombed and they got scared and went back to their old formula and haven’t looked forward since. I feel like they are one of the few punk bands from that time period that was really successful that didn’t “mature” and grow around the time Untitled and American Idiot dropped. They are who they are and won’t change and unfortunately their albums are probably going to be hit or miss for the rest of their careers.

I would have loved to see a follow up to Coming Home, such a shame it did so poorly sales wise.

That’s what I was hoping they’d do with Will. Take a bit of the Coming Home and Cartel influence. Write a song and do it with Ryan Key since he’s the touring guitarist with band, do a song where Will co writes the lyrics and kind of see where the rest of the album falls.

Eh I feel like Makes Me Sick was just a really good throwback pop punk album. I don’t think it’s a more mature album like Coming Home was.

A song like Party on the Apocalypse doesnt scream “mature” to me. Makes Me Sick was well received, I just don’t think it was like Coming Home. Coming Home felt like more of a love letter album.

Makes Me Sick wasn't very mature lyrically, but musically it felt like they were moving back to SOME of the sounds they implemented on Coming Home.

Ive never really had a complaint t about the music, but yeah, they did try and do something different on Makes Me Sick.

  20. Makes Me Sick was a solid pop punk album. It had some silly lyrics here and there but it’s definitely top tier NFG overall.

I’d like to see NFG do something a little more like Coming Home, but better and more timeless. Something that could go up against MCS’s Commit This To Memory, Blink’s Untitled, and Futures by Jimmy Eat World, etc. Granted, those albums are 10+ years old, but I feel like they’re all pretty timeless and creative.

Coming Home didn’t quite hit that same level, and it sounds pretty dated (at least I think so. I haven’t listened to it in a couple years.)

But at the end of the day, maybe NFG just doesn’t have that creative drive like that those other bands do. Chad is definitely their main songwriter and he doesn’t really step out of the poppy hardcore zone.

I don't think we should be expecting NFG to be putting out their best work from now on if I'm being honest. Sounds kind of harsh but I think they're kind of beyond that point. Would love to be proven wrong but I have literally never listened to a single song off Forever after my initial listen

It sucks bad to say this, but I’ve always thought their style/sound suffered dramatically when Steve was kicked out. You can really hear how big of a role he played.

Agreed even though Makes Me Sick was a top tier album I’m not expecting them to put out their best album of their career moving forward. I don’t want them to put out albums as bad as Forever though either otherwise what’s the point. I just want albums I can listen to more than once and enjoy. So far 2 out their last 3 (not counting the cover album) have been their worst imo.

Yeah, unless they prove me wrong at some point I think the excellent Makes Me Sick will be their swan song
