Pretty solid for a cover album. I had forgotten about this for a few days so now I will blast this thing on my way home from work tonight.

After 20 years, they look like they are having fun and energized. They’ve been consistently releasing music, and survived the turbulence.

They haven’t shown any signs of slowing down and have been mentioning in interviews that they are excited to start working on new material

    So assuming that this weekend...

Making 7 music videos in the span of 2 weeks for a covers EP doesn't sound like a band that's going to give up soon.

2011 NFG? Sure, 2019 NFG? Nah, they caught their 2nd(or 3rd) wind. They're good for a long while

Yeah this feels like one of the few bands who have the following and have set themselves up to do this long-term. NFG breaking up would be a enormous (and heartbreaking) shock to me. NFG forever!

i just feel like at some point someone's gonna drop out to be with family or venture into other stuff and that's gonna be it. don't think they're that relevant anymore - i.e. their three videos from TTSTYS 3 put together have less than 1m views - and i don't know how viable it is for them to keep going. this is the part where jason pulls up some document showing they're filthy rich and sell out every show or something lol i'd be glad to be wrong

i love this band, i'm not wishing they break up. just a thought. relax y'all

  17. Dunno, based on social media they seem super happy and enjoying family life and kids and touring when they want (which I’m assuming still makes them good money). They got a label that lets them do whatever they want, figure they made a lot of $ over the years as well ... I just feel like they’re like JEW and can kinda just do whatever they want at this point and keep cranking out stuff as long as they’d like. So, the “want” and “like to do it” part would have to change more than anything. Which is always possible, but maybe they’ll be like Bad Religion and give us stuff for the next 20 years.

I don’t get why someone would make that kind of statement without a reason why they think this.

I see you posted an explanation why after the fact.

There are definitely bands when you see it coming, and bands that shock you and it comes out of nowhere. The hiatus thing has become more excepted now for bands who, as you mentioned, may take time off for family.

Since NFG’s members main gig seems to be the band, and they are having fun, survived through the Steve situation, divorces, label changes, I think they are going to ride it as long as they can. Plus, they just released a demo, which probably means another album cycle.

I too would be disappointed if the broke up. Let’s all hope it’s not the case.

didn't know about the demo! good news. i do hope they just slow down if anything. not like there aren't several bands going strong even with a relatively low profile. guess i've just seen way too many pop punk bands break up over the decade and end up expecting all of them to do it soon. i always saw NFG and Yellowcard as some sort of duo, and ever since YC broke up for good i couldn't help but think the time might come soon for NFG.

Would it help to know that Ryan Key now plays guitar for NFG on the road?

  23. The turmoil over the years in YC vs NFG seems kinda night and day to me to be honest.

I get the YC/NFG association, but YC went through constant member changes since the beginning. NFG was the same 5-4 guys for the majority of their existence.

I hope they keep up the pace. Something new keeps us talking, going to shows, buying albums and merch, etc. Music industry survival isn’t easy, but they seem to have adjusted and are sticking to a plan for success.

yeah i knew that, it's awesome when your favorite bands turn out to be best friends (or always were, in this case)

they experienced similar success over the years (i remember lift a sail and resurrection being like 100 copies apart on release week) but i always thought NFG held it together more tightly and had a more relaxed approach to the music business and their music itself. don't think they've experienced anything like what Ryan did (and may still do) with his wife as well, so obviously YC had a less stable foundation. it's just another impression i had
