I just remember when the tracklist leaked in early 2020 and someone on here was like "Same Side Sitters, god I bet that songs about sitting on the same side of the diner booth on a date" and we all laughed as if that would be too cheesy and ridiculous. And then the actual song leaked...lol
Even some of the song titles are awful. “Birthday Song but Not Really,” “Scarier Than Jason Voorhees at a Campfire,” “Double Chin for the Win.” Like what are we even doing here?
NFG are not the first band to swing for "recapturing the feeling of our youth" and over-correcting into somewhat cringey lyrics and I doubt they'll be the last.
the demo and the realized version are both excellent, but i am partial to the demo version i heard from the 2019 tour sampler, it just hits better then the album version
“birthday song but not really” is the one that made me throw my hands in the air. Having gone back to this a few times, it’s clear they can still write good songs. The EP that is the deluxe version is nearly as good as anything post-NWAF in their catalog. But my GOD, the lyrics and song names of the main record all feel like demos. After the 1-2 punch that was STYS3 and MMS, I was honestly floored when I heard how bad the regression was. I think they could have operated near the peak of those records for a while.
love the line in this song 'Got no quarters in my pocket There's no change to play your game' so clever, and a great opener song, still jam it to this day!
yah man backseat, the last red eye, puzzles are all great tracks, they could be on the actual album to replace all the cringey cheesy songs haha
Doing a discog run and my biggest takeaways are that NWAF is worse than people rate it and Radiosurgery is better than people rate it. Really good band.
Outside of 3 or 4 songs I just can’t get into NWAF and I had high hopes for it since Mark was producing it.
There really is something uniquely bad about the lyrics on that album even in the context of the genre. Devoid of any iota of artistry. And I still rate them in the top 5 pop punk bands!
I haven't listened to NWAF in a long time but Tangled Up still randomly pops in my head every so often.
NWAF was such a disappointment, especially knowing Mark was producing ahead of time. I rarely listen to it.
NWAF has a lot of “great starts.” The opening riff to pretty much every one of those songs is at least a little interesting other than the final track, which does absolutely nothing for me. But among the completed songs, I really feel like only Listen To Your Friends (which is an admitted fucking banger) and perhaps heartless at best really carry the energy, the focus or something unique to their sound.
