I agree their content after becoming a 4piece hasn’t been close to their early work, but I thought their bonus songs on Forever & Ever were great. Backseat, Ferris Wheel, Puzzles. and they still have other flashes of great work. Happy Being Miserable is one of my favorites.
It's a shame as they used to be heavy in my rotation but I've not really been into anything they've done since Coming Home.
If they fixed the super awkward chorus vocal delivery on "Happy Being Miserable," it would be one of my favorite four-piece NFG songs. But it's hard for me to listen to now.
They just need a permanent 2nd guitarist. Someone that they see as part of the band that can collaborate
This is okay. I actually didn’t realise this was solely acoustic. The main issue is that all the songs sound the same, even when there’s some nice melodies, it gets lost. Despite that, I liked some of the songs individually. Watch The Lillies Grow was a nice change of pace, in particular.
Kinda wish they went full Foo Fighters "In Your Honor" with these songs and released a double album. part 1: new full band electric songs, part 2: these acoustic songs.
Acoustic songs are always my least favorite songs on albums so needless to say this release wasn't really for me lol Nice to see them actually trying on their lyrics again though
Maybe it needs more of those awful midi-sounding strings like on that old eyesore_(acoustic) mp3 way back when.
When S/T leaked, I decided to use the old version of Eyesore from the Fadeaway Records comp when burning the CD. Not to date myself further, but I did this because an mp3 of Eyesore would have taken like an hour to download. I didn't realize they were different versions of the song until like 3-4 months later when listening to the album in my friend's car.
Is that Eyesore acoustic version legit? I’ve never been able to locate what CD it’s from or if it’s from a live performance. Last time I listened to it and it feels fan made.
It was never on an official comp, it just sort of... exists. I didn't question it much - we were barely out of the era of downloading "sugar ray_what I got (acapella).mp3" which turned out to be All Mixed Up. So if the file name said acoustic Eyesore, and it was that? Good enough for me! If it's fan made, the audio would have to come from a radio performance or something, since the vocal track isn't the same as the Fadeaway version.
Yeah that’s why it’s so confusing as to where it’s from. It’s not listed on Discogs. I’m guessing it might be from a radio or a home video performance.
I've never really been a fan of Coming Home - I get what they were trying to do, I just don't think they succeeded - Make The Most Of It is more successful, IMO. I like the arrangements and think they pushed themselves in the lyrical department more.
Damn, I can't get on board with that take at all. Coming Home is far from my favorite NFG record and I've been critical of why/how it was made, but it absolutely blows this out of the water. Not even in the same ballpark for me
Seems mostly like it's ... had very little reaction? Most common thing I've seen is people wishing for the studio recordings of the old songs.
