I really like that album, however, I still can’t help but feel like it fell just shy of being on par with Catalyst. I also think the Makes Me Sick era didn’t get the credit and celebration it should have.
Listened to Coming Home and now listening to Catalyst for the first time in years tonight... I think I wrote off going back to Catalyst based off the album art, but mannnnnn does this album S L A P. Doubt Full is so good.
I love Catalyst, really solid follow up to Sticks & Stones. I think there are only two songs I don’t like. Plus their B sides (like usual) to it were really good too.
Love seeing NWAF in there. I feel like I don't see that one mentioned in a lot of people's favorites. Very underrated in my eyes. Just spun it last night actually!
I also realized I never followed up on this from a few weeks ago. I did go back and listen to Makes Me Sick Again and enjoyed it a lot more than I remember the first time around! It will definitely be in the heavy rotation of NFG albums for me going forward!
Haha I’ve literally nothing against this….I love every single of their albums with Catalyst occasionally switching with Coming Home as my favorite depended on how I feel….. The only stuff I dont dig at all for the first time are those two new songs.Big meh for me
the dude who did the catalyst cover art does tattoos in connecticut now and i'm so tempted to get a ridiculous giant catalyst-y tattoo of something
I rarely listen to NWAF...it just doesn't connect with me for some reason. And I remember feeling disappointed about that, knowing it was produced by Mark Hoppus. Had high expectations for it. Ah well.
It’s got some very high highs (Listen, 47, I’ll even ride for Heartless at Best). But it was the first album of theirs where I heard a track and wondered “huh, that’s the best they could do?” And every album since has had one, or a few, or the whole album full of “huh” moments. Before this, they were on a 4 album heater, or 5 depending on how you feel about the debut. That’s very hard to do in this scene. Most bands can’t do it.
It's also more frustrating when NWAF was coming off of FTSTYS 2 and the Tip of the Iceberg EP. Other high marks in their discography.
Maybe I will give it a listen again to see if my opinion changed. Haven’t listened to it in years. I just remember the back half of NWAF does nothing for me, except Heartless and I’m The Fool. It’s like they had a solid EP and then just threw some B sides on there to call it an album.
NWAF is great and is still way better than anything that has come out since. Not that that's a high bar.
