I think I've always had an unconventional NFG opinion but: Best to worst Catalyst S/T Sticks and Stones Radiosurgery Makes Me Sick Coming Home Resurrection Not Without a Fight Forever + Ever Nothing Gold Can Stay Haven't listened to the new one yet, probably will tomorrow
Coming Home Sticks & Stones S/T Catalyst Makes Me Sick Radiosurgery Listen Up! Not Without a Fight Nothing Gold Can Stay Resurrection Forever + Ever x Infinity
S/T Sticks & Stones Catalyst Coming Home Makes Me Sick Radiosurgery Listen Up! Resurrection Not Without a Fight Nothing Gold Can Stay Forever + Ever x Infinity
Stick & Stones Coming Home Self Titled Catalyst Not Without a Fight Makes Me Sick Nothing Gold Can Stay Radiosurgery Listen Up Forever + Ever (if we're including the deluxe tracks) Resurrection
Just listened to this album on a nice sound system and wow, the production on this thing sounds incredible. Ian’s bass tone with that amazing green Fender p-bass bass they use for every album recording…dang. And the drums…if you can listen to this on a good set-up, do it asap.
I’ve listened to this a bunch and it’s solid. In terms of where it stacks up with the rest of their discography I’d say there is the “big 3” of self-titled, Sticks and Stones and Catalyst and then another tier of really good albums like NWAF, Radiosurgery etc etc and I’d slot this right in there with those albums. There are a couple moments where the verses get a little wordy but that’s probably my biggest gripe with this. I don’t think there is a dud on the album.
The verses in A Love Song might be my favourite my favourite NFG moment since Coming Home. Would be higher all round if not for the chorus lyrics.
Finally got the New Noise magazine with NFG. Some fun things including the band reminiscing about being on TRL and Claire Danes drawing in Ian’s stomach in charcoal (never seen this?!) and that the band loves going into the audience meeting people, even when playing arenas (assuming during the Offspring tour).
Treat Yourself is up there with All I Want by the Offspring for “best Bad Religion songs not written by Bad Religion.”
haha I don't hear that at all Also the award for best Bad Religion songs not written by Bad Religion has to go to Pennywise
To me this is the most non-Bad Religion Bad Religion song. There’s definitely a very West Coast punk vibe to Treat Yourself.
"Man who believes The Used is best band ever suddenly embarrassed for others enjoying New Found Glory" ~ The Onion
Who can forget the beautiful lyrics by the Used: Liar, liar, pants on fire Liar, liar, stop your soul from catching Fire, fire, God and maker Liar, liar, pants on fire Liar, liar, house of fire And the glass tastes messy chew it louder Bet your tummy hurts you, you motherfucker
Be careful, you may summon a troll that has lingered in Used threads here for many, many moons.... We don't want that in here
My current hot take is that i now like this record more than makes me sick (which im very high on). We’ll see if that stands the test of time.
I enjoy this record, but my recent discography run made me realize just how great Makes Me Sick is. This album doesn't come close to it IMO. Still a fun album, though.
Makes Me Sick didn’t grab me at all, this is the first one that did since Resurrection, but that might all be a time and place thing
I wouldn't necessarily disagree with this. I think the big thing is that Makes Me Sick has a few more tracks I skip. Listen Up I seem to be listening to pretty much all the way through (minus You Got This).
