Pretty solid return to form for NFG! I'll be spinning this one all year. New Found Glory – Listen Up!
It's different for every writer, but for me personally it's more of an overall feeling from front to back. The less filler, the better, and I try and reserve the "HR" tag for those records that are really special. Speaking in terms of NFG, I'd put the following LPs of theirs in that "Highly Recommended" category: Self-Titled Sticks and Stones Catalyst Coming Home Radiosurgery This current album, while a great return to form, would be hard to rank as the same quality as the 5 albums above, but hey, it's just my opinion...Hope you're enjoying the new tunes, and thanks for asking the question!
Really wish I could get what others are out of this. The only song I have any interest in revisiting after my first listen is “Dream Born Again.” Not terribly surprised, though, I haven’t liked anything since Radiosurgery, unfortunately. They were my favorite band for such a long time that I’ll never not give the new stuff a chance, at least.
Might be the first time in years for NFG but looks like X107.5 in Las Vegas has added A Love Song into their rotation. We are on radio folks.
I was also afraid to "officially" call this their 11th studio album, since I've seen outlets call it everything from #11 thru #14 studio albums in their discography. Soooo, what's the consensus on the album number? ha
Bio says 11, so I think that means: Nothing Gold Can Stay New Found Glory Sticks and Stones Catalyst Coming Home Not Without a Fight Radiosurgery Resurrection Makes Me Sick Forever + Ever x Infinity Listen Up! No covers EPs, Christmas stuff, etc.
11 for sure. Their Wikipedia discography page (certainly the source of the 14 number) also includes FTSTYS 2, December's Here, and the acoustic record in the albums count. Really loving this new album. On my second listen today, and I'm already sure I like it more than anything since Resurrection or maybe even Not Without a Fight.
Only listened to the album once straight through and I really liked it. Like others have said it’s just a simple fun NFG album.
This band getting regular radio play out of a song this far into their career after all they've gone through over the last few years would be really cool.
Radiosurgery was the last NFG release I enjoyed until this one. it's a fun and energetic album. I'll be revisiting this album throughout the year especially when the weather warms up here.
Agree that this is a fun album and perfect for this afternoon since it's 70 and sunny. My only complaint is that I really did not like "Medicine" on first listen.
ive hated pretty much everything theyve done since NWAF but i just threw this on and Im kind of into it...
I think I’ve only heard like 3 of their previous albums but I’m liking this. Could see it sticking for me
I have some gripes with it but overall very happy with it. I can kind of sum up my thoughts by saying this: Listen Up! is the Tip of the Iceberg EP extended out to a full album. Satisfied with it being 10 songs.
This is fun as hell. I absolutely love the instrumental tones throughout. In a time where most guitarist are DIing in the studio and manipulating all tones in post, these guitars sound like they have the bite of real amps. I could be completely wrong about how this album was recorded, but I’m a drummer so take it with a grain of salt. Cyrus sounds incredible, as usual.
