NWAF is still their last great album...which came out 10 years ago. What the hell happened to their ability to write catchy hooks?
Legit forgot this came out, I think I've only heard it once. I legit can't figure out if this album was just weak or if I'm kind of outgrowing this band, even their old stuff isn't hitting like it used to for me
Kinda wondering if Steve was the big hook writing machine they had. When he left, they lost the ability to write songs like that.
This is my thought too. Radiosurgery still had a lot of catchy hooks, as did the new songs on Kill It Live, but Resurrection onwards is where they lost me. I enjoy a few songs (Stubborn and Happy Being Miserable to name a few), but faaaar from entire albums anymore.
Would much rather just have a new EP lol Especially since I'm sure they're going to mix all the songs within the tracklisting and a 20 song hour long album not for me
Haven't watched the conversation yet, but having Joel moderate it makes me wish they did a GC-NFG-SP tri headliner. Could've done venues twice the size they're doing now. Someone make it happen!
i wish that a tour like that would happen with like sum 41 and the other big pop punk bands from the early 2000s haha
It’s funny that NFG is doing a tour with SP and then an interview with them and GC. Anyone else remember the talk around Catalyst and then NWAF where they were talking massive amounts of shit about those two bands and others of the same time.
Haha yup they were mad they were being compared to them because they didn’t want to known as a pop punk band. Then Coming Home bombed and all of the sudden they were like “pop punk isn’t dead” etc. and fell right back into the early 2000s pop punk album formula.
Really solid albums after coming off a long hiatus. I am probably higher on Generation RX than most people though.
Makes Me Sick was good but the others just feel like them trying to make a 2001 pop punk album in the 2010s/2020s. While other bands have evolved, NFG just continues to play it safe and have been putting out similar albums to mixed results. It also doesn’t help that 2 out of their last 3 albums (Resurrection and Forever) were their two worst albums.
I think he more meant that they never recovered commercially. It's hard to gauge where they'd be today if they had released say Not Without a Fight before Coming Home. They just put out 3 albums that went gold/platinum and spawned chart topping hits. Would one more album like that have put them on the next level alongside Fall Out Boy, or would people have still eventually grown tired of them? I always think of NFG's career like Yellowcards. If Paper Walls and Not Without a Fight were released before Lights & Sounds and Coming Home, how much more successful would they have been? People rag on them sometimes for "playing it safe" with that same old pop punk sound without evolving, but honestly I think playing it safe is exactly the reason why they've maintained such a loyal fanbase.
Yeah in 2021 I know what i’m getting for the most part out of NFG. Not looking for them to stray too far from the formula.
I dont know what you're talking about, I wrote Paper Walls....... Hey we're twinning with our usernames!
