Then to double down and push it back because of COVID... Yeah it's hard to imagine what they could've done worse during this rollout.
They should have released it as soon as it leaked. Its not like they had anything special for the album rollout besides announcing the summer tour.
I mean... idk, I got a few singles I liked off the new album, so that's a win for me i'm just a casual fan tho. The last track of the album, whatever it's called, stands with the best of their discography.
what was wild about the leak to me was that it leaked VIA Apple Music, so they could have just kept the whole thing up and said 'welp.' (I assume, at least). Maybe the push back had to do with the vinyl pressing timeline etc.? who knows
How much say do labels have in these debacles? I imagine that was probably the main decision maker in this case. I also think it's time for them to go the DIY route to see what happens next.
These bands that had some success and have kept going awhile like TBS, NFG, Sum 41, Alkaline Trio etc all seem to do right in this range, like 7 to 10k. I think Trio was top 10 in sales with Cursed and streaming dropped them into the 60's or something. To be fair the charts that NFG noted are really all these bands care about at this point, rock doesn't stream at all in the grand scheme
I haven't been able to check out the new album yet. What's everyone's consenus of it? Thumbs up/thumbs down/thumbs middle ground?
If you're looking for a fun / cheesy pop punk album to jam to during the Summer I'd say this is a good one
It honestly depends on your taste and expectation of it. The music is full of energy and urgency with cool riffs and breakdowns that are VERY NFG-esque. If you're a lyrics person then you'll probably hate it because they're incredibly cheesy unless you're cool with cheesy lyrics and allow yourself to just have fun with them. I mean, they have a song about sitting on the same side of a table with your partner at a restaurant lol.
What are the chances they start writing a new record faster than they normally would? It's not like they can tour this year or even early next year.
I'm pretty middle of the ground when it comes to instruments vs lyrics. I only checked out their first single, 'Greatest of All Time' as I like to wait for the entire album to drop, instead of listening to all the singles that come out ahead of time these days haha. I digress, lol.. I loved the instrumentals of that song, but cringed kind of hard at the Chicago Bulls line in it haha.
I think a big reason for the delay had to be Target. Hopeless 100% worked out a distribution/promotional deal with them that probably hinged very much on the date of release. EDIT: This is coming from personal experience. I am a Brand Manager that works with retail like Target all the time on launching of new products.
I feel like this album having 15 songs is a way to just have bonus tracks included. It didn’t need to be this long.
