Haha no way. Doubt Full, Over The Head Below The Knees, Ending In Tragedy, No News Is Good News, and Who Am I are on there...
Catalys as an EP would be perfect. I listed to Not Without a Fight yesterday all the way through. Liked it a lot.
I totally genuinely love Doubt Full, Ending In Tragedy, No News is Good News, and Who Am I. Weird and awkward NFG is so much better than guns-blazing-cheesiness NFG. Over the Head might be my least favorite on the album but I’d take it over any of the garbage on this new album in a heartbeat.
Even Catalyst’s b-sides are excellent. Anyone who doesn’t like Constant Static or Radio Adelaide is nuts.
This comment got lost in the shuffle but I'd like to echo my concern about this quality of Jordan's singing lately. It's distractingly bad and I'm not sure what's up. I know he's kind of nasally/higher pitched naturally but this is really noticeable lately. Anyone else noticing this?
Ranking this band’s albums is typically pretty difficult for me bc I go through phases with each album. I’ve def ranked them before and I’m sure it’s different now lol. Like, I haven’t listened to Makes Me Sick in a long time, but I remember ranking that pretty high. Maybe 3rd? Idk if I’d put it in the sane position now. I almost want to throw Kill It Live into the rankings bc I listen to that more than anything else. That live album rules. I do know Coming Home is still my #1 though.
The only less-than-great-but-still-good song on Catalyst is "I'd Kill To Fall Asleep". Whole album rules.
Pretty much how I feel. I can say Coming Home and Sticks and Stones are 1A and 1B. Resurrection is probably last but even that has been growing on me the past few days.
NFG's self-titled album in particular falls in the same category as Enema of the State, Ocean Avenue, Say It Like You Mean It, etc. They are basically THE albums in their respective discography and I spent more time than I can even remember listening to them....but I can't even bring myself to listen to any of them anymore. That said, Catalyst is one I also overplayed and don't listen to anymore, but Sticks & Stones is still one I listen to on occasion (and love). So who knows.
The last time I saw them (MMS tour with Bayside), his voice sounded great for the first 3/4 of the set. Like, really great. My friends and I were impressed at how solid he sounded, and his vocals were pretty high in the mix that night. Then during one song, I forget which, his voice cracked and I couldn’t believe how awful he sounded. It’s like he was all of a sudden two octaves higher than he had been the rest of the night, and it was genuinely hard to listen to. I’m still confused by it all.
I think Catalyst is a mostly great record with a couple of duds. I haven’t gone back to it in some time, but I still think it’s in the top half of their discography.
I think I'd probably rank them as: Sticks & Stones Coming Home Self Titled Not Without a Fight Nothing Gold Can Stay Catalyst Makes Me Sick Forever & Ever Resurrection Radiosurgery
