I have a few issues with NWAF. I don't think it's as "back to basics" as fans/band say it is. It sounds like NFG trying to prove they can do what FYS/SYG/ADTR were doing better but fell flat. It also came off the heels of Tip of the Iceberg which is closer to what NFG started out as on NGCS.
Truck Stop Blues is one of my favorite NFG songs. I also listened to Catalyst yesterday and I forgot how much I enjoyed that album front to back. It took me waaayyyy back to my summer heading into senior year of high school. That album came out at a good time too. Right at the end of junior year haha. I loved the music video for the title track. Edit - All Down Hill From Here lol
Catalyst came out right around when bands like Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, MCR and The Used were peaking, so a pop punk NFG album felt dated for me at the time. But listening back now that album is pretty great.
Just popping in to shoutout Emery's In Shallow Seas We Sail. He also did Anberlin's Cities, so he has a lifetime pass in my book.
Catalyst is an album I wanted to love so bad but just didn't. Came out in summer during college. Music was all i cared about then.....and it just felt a little average. All Downhill from Here and Failure Not Flattering are bangers thought.
Said it before and I'll say it again: NWAF is such a slog to get through. Has a few good songs tho. Also, there's a reason these guys played it through only once or twice on that 20 years tour.
All Downhill From Here Truth of my Youth Intro Failure's not Flattering At Least I'n Known for Something
yeah i mean, they're good songs and all... but I am not like..... floored by them. then again, this band overall never really floored me so what do i know
Really don't like your biggest mistake. The other two make up the rest of the top half of the album. And then its drops off a cliff.
