What are some of your favorites that he produced? I know he's been heavily involved in the Christian and Tooth and Nail scene, but don't really know much outside of that.
Off the top of my head: Acceptance, Fair and his solo albums, Anberlin, Copeland, Eisley, and MxPx are top notch.
Are you saying that there was friction between them in the studio, or that you didnt think the record turned out good?
They kind of alluded to not having the best experience in an interview or something. I love that record
I caved and ordered the vinyl. I've been listening to this non stop since Friday. Got the green variant. Also surprised that despite the 7 different variants they made for this, there only seems to be two still available (the green one and the Urban Outfitters splatter). If they sold out of the rest that's pretty impressive, that'd be around 2,500 sales of just vinyl first week.
Sonny No News Is Good News When I Die Party On Apocalypse At Least I'm Known For Something One More Round Selfless The Worst Person Ready and Willing To name a few. It's often said "they still sing songs about girls" and they should grow up etc but truth is relationships are a part of life however old you are. An 85 year old widow might get a crush on someone in his old folks home.
Still haven't heard the new one because I've been working my way through their discography for the first time in years but I will forever maintain that Radiosurgery is incredibly underrated, I'd easily put it in my top 5 by them. Some of the best pure pop-punk they'd written since Catalyst
Smartpunk blue and orange. It was the most limited of the variants (300 copies). With a coupon code and free shipping, it was just as cheap as ordering from Amazon which was nice. It looked even cooler in person when they did the unboxing video with all the variants. I also really like the cotton candy splatter they had for the livestream.
Any chance you remember which interview that was? Was also surprised they didn't feature him on the album. All he got was one little line in the second verse of Listen To Your Friends. And you have to listen carefully because it's layered with Jordan's voice.
If there were any issues with Mark it must not have been anything too big since he did guest vocals on Ready & Willing 2.
Listening to Makes Me Sick this morning and I feel like I always forget how much I love it. So much more thought put into these songs than on this new album. Really think it's my 2nd favorite NFG album
I do give NFG props for mixing it up with different producers. There’s nothing I can’t stand more than artists who don’t get out of their comfort zone (cough cough R4C bands and Will Yip). Also, Aaron Sprinkle rules.
I can’t find the article but it was like a throwaway line in the press for either Radiosurgery or Resurrection. Not so much that they were at each others throat or anything. I think they were just saying that the process went smoother with whoever had produced the album they were currently recording
Based on the myriad of components that go into creating an album, that comment could've meant anything...from they worked better with the producer on the current album they're promoting to a band member felt physically better recording the new album due to not having a bad case of indigestion/depression/relationship problems/anything during recording NWAF (just a super random example for the sake of argument) - any difference about the experience that was improved. Just my take.
I think when Chad has done album rankings before he's said they feel they weren't firing on all cylinders for NWAF because they were just trying to get back to formula to spite the fans after Coming Home didn't sell well. Less any specific bad blood with Mark and just the general frame of mind maybe not being ideal.
That actually makes a lot of sense. That album does seem like it was a deliberate attempt to recapture their old formula that was absent on Coming Home and didn't seem like it was a natural step for them. You know, before this album, I would have said that this band could always write in their same old style and I would really enjoy it. While I do like some of the songs, overall it proved that my assumption was not correct...
